Arafinwё gave the Easterling a stern gaze. He had to stand his ground. “Yes. But I do not fear him, the Valar are with me.”

“Oh aye, it be possible. I mean, ye gave them yer bravery, yer fae, yer spine and sacrifice like four o’four of yer children ta their commands, they would better give ye at least a bit o’help.”

“And why should I stay?” he snarled, turning on Arafinwëand glowering down at him, not caring in his rage that this was not the brother who would yell back at him.

“What is keeping me here?!” he demanded. “You? Your hapless brother? If I never see either of you again in my lifetime, it’ll be too soon!”

Finda winced as he pressed a wet cloth to his right forearm that was scattered with cuts from a fall. His left wrist was scraped as well but the right arm had taken most of the hit due to landing on it. It was an accident of course,  perhaps a bit reckless.

Tyelkormo had invited him to join a hunting trip for the day and while Findarato preferred not to hunt he certainly did want to put in an effort to spending time him. They were not as close as other cousins so it seemed the proper thing to do. Friends were supposed to at least try to humor and respect each others hobbies after all.  Though unfortunately soon into the trip Tyelkormo’s dogs took to aggravating Finda’s horse and after a good deal of frustration the horse threw him into some shrubbery.

“ It was not his fault, Atya. It was an accident.” he reasoned softly, even though these things seemed to always happen when that particular cousin was around. “ I am alright, it is nothing that will not heal.”

Arafinwe looked down on his delicate hands with sad, green eyes. “And yet these memories seem to be so far away…” His soft voice was quiet and heavy-hearted, but he still tried to smile. Somehow.

“Nonetheless, I will carry them always in my heart, dear brother~”

Nolofinwë couldn’t make himself look his brother in the eyes. He should stay -- this was their home, and Fëanáro had ripped it away from them in his foolishness. Arafinwë was right to turn back. So was Anairë, and Nerdanel, and all the rest. 

And yet here he stood, about to follow his half brother in Doom and despair. Nolofinwë smiled with quiet grief, and said, “I’ll miss you, Ara.”
