"It is now safe for you to turn on your cell-phones, but please remain seated until the plane has come to a complete stop."
Klavier shifted uncomfortably in his seat. First-class or not, there was nothing that could really make an 18-hour flight comfy. Regardless of how many heated neck pillows he was given. He stretched his legs and withdrew his iPhone from his deep pocket, turning it on. The clean, sharp Apple sign popped up on the screen before leading to a locked screen with the background of a promotional picture of the Gavinners. He kept it around for sentimental value.
It took a moment, but then the messages started to come in.
"Ack, vat is this?" The German he had been speaking fluently for the past week hadn't completely faded from his tongue.
He had expected the multiple voicemail messages and emails; such a high prosecutor such as him needed to be connected 24/7 or he would miss a lot, but there was a text message that was particularly discouraging to him.
hey bro so sry but i can't pick you up 2day something came up
"So ein Beschiß!" he muttered. This was ridiculous. He quickly dialed the number for the town-car service he usually used, but they were closed. Not surprised, it was Labor Day weekend and it was late. And there was no way he was going to take a cab. Not with a pure-bred, 130lb German Shepherd in a kennel to bring home.
He furrowed his brow, thinking of what to do. The faceless voice announced over the intercom that it was now ok to leave the plane, so he absentmindedly collected his carry-ons and walked off the plane.
There was only one other night owl that he knew would be up this late...
"This isn't going to work but..." Klavier opened his contacts and selected Ema Skye.
