Jon and I visited Mount Emei a couple of days ago. When we woke up that morning, we were a bit disappointed to see clouds in the sky. We knew the Golden Summit would be best viewed with sun but we made the trek up regardless. When we arrived at the top, the entire statue was shrouded in clouds. The fact that we were aware of our disappointment and (probably) because it was a Buddhist temple, we were reminded of an important Buddhist lesson: 'anicca' in Pali means "everything changes - this, too, shall pass". So we waited...and waited...and waited some more. Our patience gave us a few rewarding minutes with this extravagant site. The sun even peeked out momentarily, setting the 48-meter-high sculpture aglow.
