After a scoring slump, Willy promises Kyle that he can be better, that he will be better. So he starts making all kinds of deals with him. Maybe they start out normal and innocent, if he plays well he gets more ice-time, the usual hockey player stuff. But it slowly turns more personal. 'If I score this many points, I get to pick your brain.' They talk about hockey and Kyle's plans and motivations until suddenly Willy is spending time at Kyle's apartment and- "How many points do I have to score to get a date with you?"

If you want it get lewd, maybe it turns into sex bets. Y'know like Willy's not allowed to get off until he score another goal. Kyle just edging the absolute fuck out of him. "Sorry Willy, you just haven't been good enough for me."

sometimes reading The Athletic is like reading shitposts on tumblr and some guy out there IS getting paid for writing them (to be clear, i am very much not getting paid for anything)

I feel like this is quintessence of sports journalism - sometimes you read a fantastic piece like the one about the coyotes or some shitpost masked as an article but most of the time it’s just the same three questions and answers before and after a game 😅

I mean, Fleury obviously 🌸. Honourable mention to Price 💖 , and quote god Bryzgalov ("it's only game, why you heff to be mad" / "solar system is so humongous big"). If King Louis can carry the Pens to the second round he'll move up in the rankings for sure.

of course it's gotta be Chelsea Dagger and not even just because of the homerism but I was a fan of The Fratellis long before I got into hockey. (like, I had a friend named Chelsea who had the lyrics in her msn messenger tagline). Go check out some of their other bangers like Henrietta or Creepin' up the Backstairs.
