Happy birthday, Eric Clutton!

Intrepid FRED designer/builder Eric Clutton turns 91 years young today!  Here’s wishing Eric a very happy birthday on behalf of all those who have taken wing thanks to his inspiration and a little aeroplane called FRED.  To celebrate, here is a pic of Tony Oliver’s G-OLVR, a well-known FRED that first flew in 1978.  From the VW engine on the nose this appears to be G-OLVR in its early days (it later sported a Continental A-65) so I’m going to guess early 1980s somewhere over England.  G-OLVR is currently owned and under restoration by Phil Darnbrough.  Cheers, Matthew

With thanks to photographer Ray Barber, here to kick off 2019 are four pics of some familiar FRED “faces” spanning almost for decades form 1979 to 2007.  The first one is, of course, Eric Clutton’s own G-ASZY back in its “FRED Baron” days, and G-BGFF, G-OLVR, and G-BMFF are no strangers to this site.  Happy New Year to Clutton FRED fans everywhere!  Cheers, Matthew

Ah, the many colors of FRED!  Mike Clarke of Wokingham, Berkshire, England was kind enough to donate a bunch of new FRED photos from various UK fly-ins in the 1980s and 1990s.  Thanks, Mike!

G-OLVR, pictured above in its glory days in the 1980s, is now up for sale on eBay.  The aircraft is in a sorry state but is stored out of the weather in a shed in Wales and appears complete except for the engine and prop.  Depending on the condition, it would be a great candidate for restoration or a great way to recover parts and hardware for a new FRED project.  Please rescue a forlorn FRED!  UPDATE 10/1/2012 - G-OLVR SOLD ON EBAY FOR £1,020.  WHO IS THE LUCKY NEW OWNER?
