EVEN AFTER ALL THIS TIME, his voice sounds like home.

if it were anyone else finding persephone in this state, it would be game over. call the police, call gojo, hell, call the yakuza and they'll finally clean up the mess hellhound has put tokyo in. it was sheer luck that her victim managed to catch her with a bullet before she tore his throat out with her teeth; it sinks into her thigh like poison and she sways, hobbles, like a wolf with a broken leg.

when geto enters the alleyway, the sight before him is nothing short of barbaric. it's hard to tell where the main body is supposed to be — the pieces are too even, too ripped apart, some crushed into a smear on the asphalt and some tossed against the wall and left there like pieces of trash. blood and blood and more blood, painting the ground, painting the walls, painting the adjacent dumpster. and in the middle of it all a tall woman, breaths ragged from exertion, bloodstained teeth bared, eyes wild and glazed over with rage. they aren't in much better shape than the scene around them. it appears as if they've taken a bath in a tub full of blood — endless tumble of black hair stuck to their neck and arms and back and hips, matted and shiny; face painted crimson from the nose down; the only blood that is her own is what seeps from the wound in her leg, the wound she doesn't seem to notice at all as she takes one, two menacing steps toward geto —

— and for a moment, it truly, genuinely looks as if she's about to leap at him with the intent to kill. instead, she topples forward and collapses into his arms.

i've got you. his voice a rich tenor, a balm over bruises, and only now does the mist in her eyes clear enough for her to blink up at him through matted eyelashes. ❝ suguru. ❞ a sigh of a name. they're too exhausted to panic about being seen in this state, about the murder and the gore. too damn tired. too damn tired. ❝ how...? ❞

FLECKS OF BLOOD SINK INTO satoru's shirt as she coughs, clings to the fabric almost desperately against the terrifying feeling of one's own life slipping away. the feeling you don't know until you know it. the vision going black, the heartbeat shallow and fast, the shivers and shivers and shivers. you know things are bad when you have to call satoru gojo to extract you from a situation you thought you had under control. what chiaki thought was a single curse user turned out to be an entire small cult, an ambush in a dark room that left her half-dead on the floor in a pile of bodies. but he's here. he's here, like he promised he always would be, and never in her life has she been more grateful for someone keeping their word.

if kento disagrees, it’s because he knows he has no effect on the people around him ⸻ not like this, not with a soul - sucking job in which he exists to make the rich richer. it’s thankless, there’s nobody he’s really helping, he’s a cog in the capitalist machine all for the sake of himself ; for money, an early retirement to the oceanside of an entirely new country where he can remove himself from society and one day die in peace.

he ponders why it bothers him so, wonders if it’s not just as self - serving to work in a job where he can make a meaningful difference in struggling people’s lives if only to assuage that sense of guilt he feels.

kento doesn’t mean to make this anyone else’s problem, though ⸻ certainly not aimi’s, who has been kind enough to spend her lunch break together with him at a cozy little cafe down the street from his office. he has to imagine he must already look worrisome, is keenly aware of the bags under his eyes, of the way his cheeks are gaunt, aged by stress and misery. she signs to him, and he sighs, dabs a napkin to his lips as he temporarily settles his half - eaten sandwich down upon his plate and replaces it with a scotch glass. ( he shouldn’t drink something so hard in the middle of the day, really, but it helps the day end more quickly. )

tatsu loves to listen to people just as much as he likes to talk — they think it's amazing when people have interests that they're passionate about, loves the way it broadens his worldview! they are infinitely more likely to pay attention to someone that genuinely has an interest in the topic of discussion — finding the subtle cues in someone's face that indicates passion and interest are just as delightful.

tatsu loves to make people laugh! they have a sense of humor that just flows very naturally, even if it's not always at the most appropriate moment / even if it toes the line of dark humor. i don't think they necessarily fall into gallows humor too much, but humor is definitely a coping mechanism — for instance, if he's joking about how old his mom is, it's because deeper down, they're really anxious about it.

tatsu is very loyal and generally very easygoing about most things! they're pretty ride-or-die for their friends and will always be down for a spontaneous trip or adventure. wanna go for a walk at midnight? he's down! wanna cut class and sneak off to the arcade? they're in.

💔 BROKEN HEART — what are three of your oc's negative traits?

on the other side of the "funny" trait coin — tatsuki is deeply unserious (up until they get really mad, anyway). they're kind of a troll! it's just all in good fun for tatsu, though it does become a useful skill in masking when they're feeling only marginally confrontational or mildly annoyed — but i would not blame other muses for feeling annoyed by it! they also run the risk of coming off as insincere sometimes.

they can take some extreme risks sometimes, especially where a common theme of their abilities depending on the universe is more or less that of a "shield." it's an interesting contrast of internally actually being quite afraid of getting hurt — but he does use fear as an adrenaline shot and will always put himself on the line to protect the people he cares about. this does also mean he's a little too unafraid of starting a fight for someone's honor — but that's also the extent of their loyalty like i kind of mentioned above!

they're pretty easy to distract — particularly when they're stuck in a frankly dry lecture. it's part of the reason why tatsu does not do well in school — he's just not compatible with teaching styles that just chug through content and have no real passion. they really do learn the most through tangible experiences and passionate infodumping. don't ask tatsu for their school notes by the way — you're going to find grocery lists, elden ring boss notes, relevant but frankly unhelpful class notes ["teacher is depressed :(" "this book sucks :(" "i want a calculator :(" "don't drink liquid mercury"], crude doodles, and "tatsu [last name of crush]" in the margins. tatsu has also definitely cut class more than once before. tatsu has kind of resigned himself to knowing that they have very little prospects to go to a good college or to get a really good job; this tends to be a contributing factor that leads tatsu to get involved in different verses — to go to blue lock, to become a sorcerer, to become a bard, etc. etc.

💘 HEART WITH ARROW — what and/or who do(es) your oc consider the most important to them?

tatsu's relationship with their adoptive mother is really central to their being. they attribute their sense of self (pride in the good, acceptance of the bad, full ownership of being "weird"), their big heart, their sense of humor, the fact that they never really felt like an unwanted child in spite of everything all to her. as much as she doesn't want tatsu to feel obliged to "repay" her, tatsu is generally incredibly motivated to provide for her so that she can leave easily for the rest of her life.

and then shout out to his cat, frank! kind of considered their only friend in middle school. in spite of everything they grew up without very many friends and was widely regarded as the weird kid — his mom and dad (alive at the time) were the same age as everyone's grandparents, he got in trouble with his teachers a lot for struggling to pay attention, he was too talkative, and especially by middle school, especially after his father passed, their home circumstances were generally well-known (particularly that miyu was not his bio mom, that his father was a cheater — it was obvious, because neither of his parents had been blond). tatsu and his mom adopted frank shortly after the passing of his father; frank is very affectionate and talkative, and will let tatsu put outfits on him whenever they please. he's a good kitty! <3

she sits up against the wall, one finger twirling and releasing a lock of now-white hair. she stopped dying it after they left — it took some getting used to, glancing in the mirror and seeing the face she and everyone else used to hate — but that's why she did it. they can hate this face all they want. they can't do a damn thing about it now.

something has changed irrevocably within the two of them. amanai's death, chiaki's parents. suguru's mass-murder, her vengeful war path. it doesn't always show itself, but it is always there, thrumming in the both of them — awakened, dangerous. yet, at the same time, it is hollow and aching with grief.

she didn't mean to pick up smoking. it was sort of an accident, something she chased for the nostalgia of open windows and laughter, a bitter and acrid taste to contrast the sweetness of memory. chiaki leans her head on suguru's shoulder and looks out at the landscape from the temple steps. ❝ d'you have any regrets? ❞
