In a (shamelessly-clout-chasing) sequel to my James Bond novels post, here’s a list of the things you will encounter in Goncharov by Thomas Rodriguez, the 1971 novel which was adapted into Goncharov (1973).
There’s a weird scene where Andrey and Katya share a kiss, and when Goncharov catches them, he seems weirdly unbothered, later commenting to Andrey that they can both “share” Katya.
One (1) actual gay character in the form of a minor character of Goncharov’s gang who has an ongoing relationship with a man he met in prison.
A scene where Andrey is forced to strip naked in front of a group of soldiers

A lot of weird flashbacks to the Gulag, which simultaneously depict a kind of red-scare one-dimensional fear of the USSR and a weird disrespect for the actual victims of the USSR.
