Out Of Focus Lens
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! ” Matt 7:11NASB
Are you a loving parent? If you’re any of the parents I personally know, you totally comprehend giving good gifts. You know the awesome feeling, you receive from giving something desired to one of your babies, be it toddler to grown-up, grand, or great-grand. One Christmas, we gave the eight older, great-grandchildren tablets simultaneously. It was pure pleasure for us. And “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children” —think —how much God our heavenly Father desires to reward our faith with good gifts. Giving creates pleasure for God.
The entire Bible revolves around one theme: God loves you. He’s forever trying to show us His love. Meanwhile, we’re wearing the glasses satan provides. Our eyesight is horribly askew. These out-of-focus lens blurs God’s love into religion, hatred, punishment, the treadmill of trying to appease and please. Truth is: God wants us to be surrendered to love. Left to our genius ways, we fight God’s love almost every step of the way.
A small example from life: I know two diabetics, siblings. One is on insulin. The other isn’t. Their respective doctors has given both of them strict diets to follow. Both of them consider their doctors to be ogres, trying to take away their life’s greatest pleasure —eating. No chocolate? No bread? No potatoes? No cakes? No sugars? That can’t be possible!
Reality says: To keep their eyesight, limbs, kidneys functioning they have to cut out foods which are actually killing them. Their doctors want to protect them— follow the diet! Satan says: You don’t have to follow that diet. You feel good. You can have what you want to eat. It won’t hurt you, today.
Most people say the Bible is filled with ‘rules.’ Few people have researched the Laws enough to understand— every Law is related to good for the one who adheres to those laws. Leviticus reveals laws about hygiene. God wanted to keep His people healthy— it’s wiser than always having them sick.
Research the Bible about sexual misuse and proper use. God makes it abundantly clear— He doesn’t want you to suffer— ripped apart emotions, venereal diseases, and other woes. After all, He’s the One holding you, as you cry all night— while holding up the one you’ve hurt, while they cry. His Word says don’t abuse sex in the first place; don’t hurt the someone you’re committed to. Are His laws out of love? Hate? It’s like the diet and the diabetic, healthy? Unheathly?
Once you realize God loves you— see His laws are for your good— not for Him— you’re ready. What are you ready for? To form the core conviction: God is for you in every situation— Sick? Psm 103:3NIV “Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.” Believe Him! Broke? Ph 4:19NASB “…My God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Receive! Worried? Ph 4:7NLT “… The peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Rest!
I could write another forty thousand words of needs and His faithful promises to love you— giving you good gifts. He didn’t stutter when He dictated the Bible to men. Until eternity comes, His Words will be alive, still saying what He means to you. Go for it. You know He loves you! Form that core conviction. Or leave your lens out-of-focus. It’s your choice. You choose.
PRAYER: Papa You are such a loving Papa, good in all Your ways. Help your children to receive this truth, and set their core convictions about Your love for, in Jesus’ name I pray.
