Amnesia

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,” Philippians 3:13NIV

After writing the devotional ‘Celebrate’ from Nehemiah 8:10, my mind and spirit have been working overtime. The concept which Holy Spirit taught me is— Yahweh Adonai doesn’t want to remember what we’ve done wrong. Instead He wants to celebrate with us our return because He knows joy with-from Him gives us strength. This flies in the face of everything which I ever learned in church growing up, even into adulthood.

Psalm 103:12NLT “He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Hebrews 8:12ESV “For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” Micah 7:19NKJV “He will again have compassion on us, And will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins Into the depths of the sea.” Jeremiah 31:34 “…they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

With acceptance of Jesus as our LORD and Savior, the Holy Trinity develops a permanent case of sin amnesia— meaning He forgets our sins! When we bring up our sins, El Roi sees Jesus and His blood, saying— ‘What sins?’

The story of the prodigal son is a perfect example, see Luke 15:11-23. Sonny boy took his inheritance off and squandered it on sex, drugs and drink— it’s party time. As real life goes, in the party world, he had an entire gang of friends as long as the money lasted. Money gone? Friends gone. Sonny boy wakes up out on a hog farm feeding the pigs slop, hungry to eat that slop. Finally, he pulls his head out of the clouds thinking, ‘Dad feeds his servants good. I’m going to go hire myself out to him.’

But before he could even get to Dad’s house, here comes Dad running up the driveway. Before he could say a word, Dad grabs him with a big sloppy kiss, rejoicing ‘my son is home.’ Dad wouldn’t even let him talk. Instead, he drags him back to the house saying, ‘my son who was lost is home, LET’S PARTY!’ Notice, Sonny boy didn’t get browbeat, nor did he even get a chance to confess his wrongs. Daddy was simply so happy to see him that it became celebration time. All wrongdoing was forgiven and forgotten.

Revelation 12:10 calls satan the ‘accuser of the brethren.’ He accuses us day and night of every tiny infraction we make. I know I can have a conversation with someone. Immediately afterwards the enemy is there saying, ‘you shouldn’t have said that’ or ‘you really insulted them.’ or whatever else he rants and raves against my mind with. It’s endless. I finally have to bring my thoughts captive, see 2Corinthians 10:3-5 to get peace again.

Jesus is not anyone’s accuser. He paid for the sins, He wants us to forget just like He has forgotten. In His mind they’re gone. Paul said we’re to leave what has happened in the past, in the past and reach for Jesus-God-Heaven with all of our might. Yes, Paul is saying— Let It Go, Let It Go! Reach for God’s celebration of you instead. But will we? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Father God, GLORY! Thank You for Your forgetfulness. Please help us to see ourselves and others with Your eyes, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Celebrate

“Then he said to them, “Go, eat of the fat, drink of the sweet, and send portions to him who has nothing prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10NASB1995

The backstory of our text messages is this: Jews had returned to Israel by the word of King Cyrus of Persia. Nehemiah had gained permission to go to Jerusalem and rebuild the wall by another of Babylon’s kings. Ezra too had received permission to return for restoring the temple in Jerusalem. Work was now concluded. Time had come for the Israelites to hear the Laws of God which had lain hidden in the temple for seventy plus years.

As the people understood what Ezra was reading, they began to cry and mourn. They realized that they and their ancestors had broken all of God’s Laws. Now they understood the captivity of their nation. Even now they had returned, still they were breaking all of God’s Laws. Overwhelming sorrow settled into them.

At this point Nehemiah says the strangest thing. Debbie’s translation— Celebrate. Come on, it’s time to party now. Be joyful! Rejoice! Share everything with each other. LORD God gives you joy for your strength.

I’ve been pondering on this scripture for several days. Why celebrate? Why not repent, being sorrowful, for all your sins? That was what my upbringing taught me, be sorrowful, repent with tears and shame.

Looking back on my upbringing today, I see differently today. We can bawl and squall from our emotions without ever touching the core of our beings. Pride is a core sin. It’s much harder for a very proud person to “…declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Study from the Law of Exodus through Deuteronomy. There we find that God rarely had ‘solemn’ feasting. He wanted celebrations— parties. We didn’t see Jesus wrestling down Zacchaeus to make him confess that he’d restore anything wrongfully taken. Peter didn’t demand Cornelius to repent of his sins before he received Holy Spirit.

We can get caught up in the negativity of our sins, our past life. Our focus can be looking hard at the past that we can’t rejoice in what God is doing for us.

Those Jews with Ezra and Nehemiah didn’t see the blessing of being in their homeland. Their eyes hadn’t opened to the goodness of God in their here-and-now. Nehemiah wanted them to celebrate God’s goodness with Him.

Where are you? Are you still seeing from the rearview mirrors of life all your past mistakes and sins? El Roi has seen it all. None of it matters. Jesus paid for all of your sins, that’s over— gone! He wanted us to celebrate all the goodness of salvation with Him. Will you do so? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God You’ve seen everything through the blood of Jesus Christ. We’re forgiven and sinless! Righteous before You. Help us see the truth and celebrate Your goodness, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Oil Is Costly

“The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.” Matthew 25:3-4NIV

As I meditated on our text, I thought of the different lessons Holy Spirit had taught me from this one parable. One lesson He taught me was about how the oil for the lamps was made.

Olive oil is made from ‘crushing’ the olives. Over our lifetimes we endure many different trials and troubles. It is in those times where we feel as if we’re being crushed. Crushing produces the precious oil brought forth for the lamps out of our lives.

A type of oil given to us by Holy Spirit is ‘anointing oil’ for our mental, spiritual and bodily healing— the oil of joy. —Psalm 45:7NIV “You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.” —Isaiah 61:3NIV “…for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair…” —Hebrews 1:9NIV “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”

All of us Jesus lovers have oil from God. What then causes us to not have enough or not enough oil?

We’re approaching the time of the ‘rapture’ according to many in the church. If not the ‘rapture,’ for sure we’re undoubtedly closing in on the end of time. Our bridegroom is coming soon.

I hear it said all the time, —‘oh yes, people have said, Jesus is coming ever since He went to heaven —nothing has changed. Time is just going to continue.’ In other words, people no longer have any expectation for His return. Life goes on, one day after another in drudgery. This is one huge reason why sinners don’t get serious about believing in and giving their hearts to Jesus.

Yet, aside from His return —everyone should be aware that even if His return isn’t imminent, their death is. Where will each person spend eternity?

Getting sloppy in our relationship with Jesus is very costly. In our text, all the virgins fell asleep. Still half of those virgins had retained a prayer life, they’d kept fellowship with Jesus their priority. Still having extra oil, they hadn’t taken for granted that His Presence would always be there for them.

The oil is too costly to let it dry up with lack of communication; getting too close to the world; or considering our trials so weighty that we lose sight of His Presence amidst the lives. No one knows what tomorrow holds. Check your oil levels now. Or not. It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Papa God like the old Sunday School song says, ‘Give me oil in my lamp, keep it burning, burning, burning, Give me oil in my lamp I pray. Give me oil in my lamp and keep it burning til the break of day, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Blow In Something Good

“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1Thessalonians 5:18NKJV

Our text verse is one which I have questioned for years. What if the text's ‘everything’ is very bad? What if ‘everything’ is loss, grief, heartache? What if ‘everything’ is the worst sickness or pain ever endured, death? I imagine everyone is like me— give me all good stuff. Pain, loss, grief, sickness are all negatives which I don’t like, let alone don’t want to be thankful for.

I once knew a man who lost his daughter at an early age to sudden illness. Bitterness and anger towards God settled into him. An evangelist came to the church. With the pastor, they reached out to this once active, vibrant Believer. The evangelist fervently prayed that God would reveal to him why his daughter was taken so young. ——A few nights later he dreamed about his daughter. She was older. While he watched, a man raped and tortured his daughter— he was unable free her. He awoke in a sweat. A scripture he’d never read flashed neon in his mind— Immediately he opened to Isaiah 57:1NIV. “The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.”

To me, the worst evil I can think of is knowing that someone I love ended in hell. I remember my precious friend and cousin. We were so close— Both of us were rebels at heart. Talent dripping from her every fingertip, she partied. Life went on, when one day she became sick with cancer. Then she got serious with Jesus.

Before she became really ill, I failed the Pap Smear test. I got on my face before God and surrendered my life to Jesus as well. We spent hours before she died talking about God’s goodness and our dumbness, thanking God for the ‘everything’ which brought our running from Him to an end. Both of us wanted to serve God forever. Her forever came shortly thereafter.

Louis traveled away from home for most of his working career. He was alone in a motel, while I was alone in our house. My legs, feet and back began hurting so severely that going through a day at work was extremely painful. Because of the pain, I began praying about retiring. Yahweh Adonai told me He wanted for me— 1. retire, 2. travel with Louis. We spent the last thirteen years together 24-7. God proved Himself faithful— Romans 8:28ESV “”…we know that for those who love God all things work together for good…” Louis loved for me to read scriptures to him, then we’d pray together as we traveled. Our relationship with the Lord grew corporately and individually by leaps and bounds (good from the bad). When he passed, I knew He was with Jesus. I thank God for the pain which gave us those years alone together.

Mom always said, ‘it’s a sick wind which doesn’t blow in something good for someone.’ Sometimes we find devastating trials, almost unbelievably unbearable. Yet Mom was 100% on point, because later I’ve found good which came out of the devastation.

During our screaming and yelling at God about how unfair, or horrible the trial is-was… let’s hold final judgement against Him for six months, to give a chance for the good to work itself out of the bad. Or you can pass your judgment on God to regret it later. It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Father God over the past fifblowty years I’ve seen you work amazing feats out of horrible material. Lives who have been born again out of grief, and devastation. Work Your glory out the bad in front of our eyes nowadays, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Complete Control

“…Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” Matthew 16:22ESV

Our text finds Peter telling Jesus —death? I don’t think so! Nothing bad is supposed to happen to You. His thinking sounds like the right thing, after all Jesus IS God’s Son, right? Being God’s Son, He should come down here and fix things, take control, stop all bad from occurring— not be killed. Christ’s death doesn’t compute on any level— except God’s. Animals were sacrificed to atone for men’s sins— not the Son of God!

In a perfect world there would be no pain, no trouble, no heartaches, no sickness, no unrequited love, no lack, no anger, nothing controversial or harmful. Oh wait— that’s what happened in the Garden of Eden— Adam already blew that for us. Now we have sin, every kind of bad imaginable and even unimaginable. Because sin exists, death exists and everything bad with it. God can’t just wave His hand and put an end to all of the bad. Why?

Yahweh Adonai had given complete control of planet earth to Adam and all of his human offspring. When Adam took the bite of forbidden fruit with Eve, he relinquished control of earth to the serpent— satan. Perhaps you readers don’t believe this— “Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “All this I will give You,” he said, “if You will fall down and worship me.” Matthew 4:8-9BSB Satan couldn’t offer to give what was not his in the first place.

There was only one way for God to legally gain control of earth back from satan— a perfect sinless sacrifice had to be shed for that blood to atone for all of sinful mankind. God announced His plan in Genesis 3:15, where sinful man and satan couldn’t figure out what was coming. Throughout the Old Testament God revealed His plan prophetically in plain sight where no human or demon could decipher what He meant or was doing. Had satan been smart enough to figure out what God meant, he would never have crucified Jesus.

Today, we’re still believing that Jesus will fix everything bad, because we would — if we could. If we were God we’d fix everything so that there would be no pain for anyone, right? What about all the bad that we’ve instigated, caused by our own stupidity of rebelliousness? Then there’s all the mistakes we would make because we don’t know everything? Truth is: we would assuredly make something much worse than what’s already here right now.

God knows the best way, the best timing for everything under the sun. He knew the cross, which Peter was trying so valiantly to keep Jesus from going to, in actuality, was the only way to give control back to His Christians.

We have control of this earth. Why don’t we use the control to tear down satan’s strongholds? Use our authority to bring good and right laws into our world? Without us doing what Peter expected Christ to do, everything will stay a mess. Do you think you’d like to be part of the solution? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God please help us to be Your active workers, using your authority in the world today to bring about Your will, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Detailed And Meticulous

“In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, the LORD moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing: “This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: “’The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.” Ezra 1:1-2NIV

In case you have heard the rhetoric that the Israel of today isn’t really inhabited by blood born Abrahamic Jews let’s look at a few facts. —Luke 3:21-37 God gave the genealogy of Mary all the way back to Adam and Himself. —Genesis 5 is dedicated to the genealogy of the first generations of mankind. —Chronicles 1 and 2 are rich with the genealogy of the Israelites. —Ezra 2, Jews had to list their lineage in order to return to Jerusalem. While Ezra 2:62 says some Jews couldn’t find their genealogy proving they were priests, causing them to be banned from service to God as unclean.

Newsflash— Yahweh Adonai has meticulous records of the genealogy of every person to ever exist, including us.

Lord of Heaven’s Armies decreed through Jeremiah 25:11 NIV “This whole country” (Israel) “will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.” Those seventy years of captivity were fulfilled, bringing in our text scripture. Cyrus, Babylon’s king, said he was instructed by God. This king wasn’t questioning or stuttering— he had heard from Yahweh.

Isaiah the prophet, prophesied about the birth of Jesus, His suffering, plus much more not missing a point. His prophecies were all fulfilled except for where we haven’t arrived yet on God’s timeline. One of his last prophecies was Isaiah 66:8ESV “Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment? For as soon as Zion was in labor she brought forth her children.” This event came to pass on May 14, 1948.

Can anyone tell me how God can be so detailed and meticulous in His Word and be fooled about who moved into the newly founded nation of Israel in 1948? I’ve walked with God for fifty years now. I know Him well enough to tell everyone that He isn’t confused; He’s never ‘out of the know;’ and He’s never late. Those He’s called to return home to Israel are His blood born Abrahamic family.

When I come to scriptures which are proven by history, like our text, it brings to me a whole other level of faith. We’re promised in Amos 3:7NIV “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.” Rest assured, what Yahweh says He’s going to do— will happen in His timing.

So, what are you believing in God to receive? Is it something insignificant? Perhaps life changing? He can stop, even reverse time. Where it comes to His Word, He will perform it, see Isaiah 55:11. None of His Words will fail. Totally trustworthy all the time. Will you trust Him? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God we believe. You know what You’re doing. Please help us where we fall short to receive Your faith, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Day-Planner

“When they came out to see Him, they begged Him to stay at their village. So He stayed for two days,” John 4:40NLT

Sychar, town of the Samaritans from the ten tribes of Israel, unclean, and distrusted by the Jews. People groups which had been separated for centuries. John described an entire scene out of the ordinary with the life of the sinless Son of God.

This story of the Samaritan woman is a ‘pause and think about this’ type of scripture. Jesus didn’t have to go through Samaria to get to Galilee. He aimed for Samaria— out of His way. Why? Papa God wrote this Samaritan stopover on Jesus’ day-planner, (see John 5:19). Why? Because Father God loves even the backslider.

Jesus was tired. He wanted a drink. Culturally, men didn’t converse with a lone woman. But here is Jesus alone with this woman at the well. He asks her for a drink — which He never received. As He talked with her, “The woman said, "I know the Messiah will come— the one who is called Christ. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.” John 4:25NLT. She, like all Israelites, knew and expected His coming.

A woman with a bad reputation, Jesus told her about all her husbands without belittling or hurting her. He revealed Himself to her as ‘Messiah’ which He had not revealed to anyone else. Then she became the first lady evangelist in the world. Rushing back to town she told everyone to come see the One she’d met— Could He be the ‘Messiah?’ (Read John 4)

What looked like a random occurrence of coincidence was— the King visiting His backslidden family of Israel, the ten missing tribes. Within the two days Jesus was there, “Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe because we have heard Him ourselves, not just because of what you told us. He is indeed the Savior of the world.” John 4:42NLT.

Our beloved Jesus is always going out of His way to bring His family together. We’re told that, “The Lord is not slow… but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance” 2Peter 3:9NASB.

We were commissioned to win the lost. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19NASB Meanwhile, we sit quietly in front of the evening news wondering what is happening in our world.

Almighty God has family in the gay community, drug culture, gangs, illegal aliens, high class snobbery, and low life that He wants to demonstrate His love to. Papa God’s got millions of people who’ve been so hurt in the churches, they won’t darken church doors. He’d like to write a trip into their neighborhoods on our day-planner. But would we go there?

Those Samaritans needed two days to believe in Christ. Some today have been waiting on us for so long to hear the salvation message their conversion would be almost instant.

Will you open your heart to His day-planner for you? Going out to love the lost and dying world? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Papa God Your love is so great that You can’t allow anyone to perish not knowing Jesus died for them. Thank You for loving so much. We have a job to do. Lead us one step, one heart at a time, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Internal Transformation

“Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.” Matthew 3:8ESV

Facebook Reels has a video stating— this is heaven’s call center, Gabriel speaking. Then the one pretending to be Gabriel begins answering a central question.

One question asked is— why don’t I see a greater change in my life, since I’ve gotten saved?

Now the answer which John the Baptist gave in our text isn’t the same answer which ‘Gabriel’ gave to the one questioning him. He proceeded to explain that the caller had come into contact with the ‘R’ word— religion rather than salvation. Religion required performance and activities rather than a change in life.

Salvation, he explained, comes from ‘grace.’ —“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:10NIV. —“For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing His glory.” Col 1:27NLT —“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” 2Corinthians 5:17NLT. —“So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:21NLT —“Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of His wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?… When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God.” Romans 6:1-2. 10NLT

Grace is an internal transformation done by the power of Jesus Christ working inside of us. Grace transforms desires. Grace is such a thrilling part of life, because the mistakes we make are already paid for in full. We can keep going not trying to overcome condemnation and guilt— but instead, stepping up, over, and out of the sin which tries to entangle us. Grace is salvation working out of us from the inside, rather than trying to get inside of us. Grace causes Father God to look at the finished work of the cross of Jesus Christ, not our failures and missteps.

Change comes from not having to restart over and over again, but living out of the goodness coming from inside of us. “For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2Corinthians 5:21ESV. If you’re struggling with a sin-addiction-habit in your life, begin declaring over yourself and your life— ‘I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus,’ until you see the fruit of what you’re saying manifested in your life.

Of course you can deny yourself the freedom which comes from declaring the truth as God sees it, if that’s what you want. Yes, you have the right to live without salvation as you try to follow our text, proving you’re saved through your efforts. It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Father God thank You for the grace extended over us at the cross. Help us to believe in that grace. Live from that grace. Lead others to the truth of Your grace, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

One Of The Few

“Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.” 1Kings 19:18ESV

Our God doesn’t have to have the majority on His side to win the battle, just a small remnent as we see in our text. Elijah the prophet was complaining to Yahweh that he was the only follower left in all Israel. Not so, there were a few lovers of God left.

Recently, I received news from Canada that their Parliament is just a couple votes away from making it illegal to sell Bibles in Canada. There are a few churches in Alberta who are rebelling and trying to stop this fight. By the beginning of August they should know if the Bible is banned. I’ve known for years that Canada had been going Communist, but never realized how far it truly was.

My Louis was born in Quebec, Canada. Should anyone travel there, they’d find Catholic cathedrals in every hamlet. Many do not have a live-in priest, only a traveling priest. Funerals and weddings have to be put off until a priest can arrive. Going to those masses, it’s all about traditions, and rituals, nothing about Jesus Christ, salvation, God’s love for us. No Bible reading. I’ve sat through many of those masses. One priest went so far as to say that all life ceases after death with the soul endlessly trapped in what they call purgatory. As good or as bad as a person’s life is on earth, that’s all one gets— how sad.

Lou and I tried to show the truth to his family. Momma was the only one who would listen, and finally accepted Jesus as Savior. Sadly, I have been unable to find any ‘protestant’ church in Quebec who would send any Christians to talk to the family, or visit their village. Result: some family members have asked me to keep my ‘religion’ and my ‘beliefs’ quiet, to myself.

Then add this my heavy heart— I heard a man describing a dream. He said in the dream, he saw the rapture happening. The churches were in full Sunday morning mode— singing their praise and worship songs. Only about 10% of the attendees were raptured, the rest were left to face the tribulation. Worse yet, they didn’t even notice there were any people around them raptured.

Yes, I know that many are attracted to the music in church. Many more think going to the church makes them a Christian. Millions think that to be baptized but not changed is all that is needed. They never recognized that who they were died in the water of baptism. Their new life was to be hidden in Christ.

As I’ve been crying out for those who believe but never die to themselves; for Canada and for our nation, I heard in my spirit our text.

Where I’d love to see the sweeping broad picture of everyone being saved, our LORD God is patient to gain the few. I was saying, ‘there’s no one Yahweh.’ He’s saying, ‘there’s a few. I will bring many more, but all I need are the few.’

Are you one of the few? This is my prayer, to be one of the few. It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God to Canada I plead, send someone to lead them into truth. To the churches, teach the depth of truth needed. To the USA, send sweeping radical changes and take us back to our roots. We are nothing without You. May we be one of Your few, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Bitter Rage

“The room erupted with bitter rage because of this Sabbath-day healing. And from that moment on, the religious leaders plotted among themselves about how they might harm Jesus.” Luke 6:11TPT

Bitter rage! This phrase stops me dead in my tracks! Why would this mind set be included in this Bible story? Luke 6:6-11.

Our text comes from the ending of the story about a man with a deformed hand. Everyone was at church. Scribes, Pharisees, religious leaders, Jesus Himself, a high ranking Rabbi, all coming together to read the scriptures and worship God.

There in their midst was this man with a deformed hand. [We’ve seen these people in every walk of life. Some hands deformed from birth, others by accidents or strokes. Whatever the pre-condition was, this man was unable to work like others or live like others.

What is anger?— Per psychiatry— is often caused by an emotional hurt, conscious or subconscious. Using this definition let us dig deeper into this story. Is it possible the Scribes and Pharisees were a bit jealous of Jesus? Already, Jesus had performed many miracles. Lives changed forever. Some of these leaders had been around for years, never having been granted power by God to heal anyone. Could these leaders have felt slighted by God causing them to be subconsciously jealous?

The key in my mind is the word, ‘bitter.’ I’ve known angry people, those filled with rage. Those who flew apart at the slightest provocation; Spewed harmful words like volcanic lava;. Threw and broke things; then apologized later.

‘Bitter’ with the word rage indicates a slow, long-simmering, seething-rage which plots revenge— cold-blooded merciless revenge. To my way of thinking this type of rage is demonically fed.

Genesis 4:4-5, 8ESV “…the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering He had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell. …Cain spoke to Abel, his brother. And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.” The first occurrence of bitter rage ended with plotted and committed murder. Cain, Adam’s offspring, fell from the pride issue of his parents to hate turned murder.

What did Jesus say about being angry? Matthew 5:22ESV “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.” Perhaps this doesn’t equal ‘bitter’ rage, but it shows how seriously Jesus considered the passions of anger.

How do we stop rage? Love alone can quell the passion of emotions. Our hearts and souls must be brought to Jesus, allowing Him to live and love through us. There’s always a second where each of us can choose how to feel. We must refuse to be controlled by emotions. Every problem in this world is caused by two things— selfishness and ‘bitter rage.’ You can be a part of the problem or part of the solution. Which way will you go? It’s your choice. You choose.

PRAYER: Holy God, the same spirit that crucified Jesus is working to destroy us. Fill us with Your love. Help us love even our enemies, in Jesus’ name I pray.

Based On The Facts

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1NKJV

Volumes have been written on the subject of faith. Believer’s faith has to founded on Jesus Christ— Mark 12:10-11ESV “Have you not read this Scripture“ ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;  this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” The foundation of all things of faith in Jesus Christ.

Apostle John puts it this way John 1:1-3NIV “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”

Even our salvation begins in Him. Jesus said, per John 14:6NIV “…No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Not one person can suddenly decide, ‘I think I’ll become a Christ Believer today.’ It’s not in our nature to head for God but away from Him. We are drawn to Christ by Holy Spirit like a moth to a flame.

When faith comes to become born again— aka saved— it doesn’t come from inside of us, but rather is supplied to us. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” Ephesians 2:8NIV. This faith for salvation isn’t something a person finally reads enough scripture to believe, (see Romans 10:17). Faith begins and ends in Jesus Christ. He is the sum total of FACTS that the entire foundation of the scriptures rest upon.

This process is called ‘born again’ because the spirit inside of every human body is dead. All spirits died in Genesis 3, when Adam and Eve partook of the forbidden fruit. Spiritual death was immediate and came to all humans born thereafter, except Jesus Christ, because He had no seed of man in Him. His seed came for God Himself. What God had intended to have a vibrant life as His friend, instead came through every birth delivery dead.

Once man’s-woman’s spirit comes alive to God through Christ Jesus the spirit life is based on the facts of the Bible. People would like to do away with the Bible as a fiction book, but it’s proven to be 100% accurate in historical facts.

When we base our lives on the facts of the Bible, faith comes continually as a gift from God. Jesus said it didn’t take much faith, “…If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.” Luke 17:6NIV. Well I’m not too sure I’ve got a mustard seed sized faith because I’ve never commanded a tree to go jump in the ocean. But I have enough faith to pray and believe God will answer those prayers. Do you?

You can have more faith, just by asking, like the boy’s father who prayed— “Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24NIV. Or not. It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Help us to have more and more faith based on the facts of the Bible, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Set Time

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes out from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:10-11ESV

Before Dad was crippled in an auto accident, we gardened a 110’ by 40’ garden plot. We grew, canned, and froze the household’s food for the fall, winter, and spring. It didn’t take years for me to figure out a bean seed wouldn’t grow corn or vice versa. Whatever we put in the ground came up as the plant producing the same seed. That simple seed was pregnant with another plant to reproduce itself.

Our text scripture tells us how rains and snow are pregnant with growth for seeds producing food for everyone to eat. Next we’re told that Yahweh’s Words carry the seed of whatever He desires to create or grow. He speaks words pregnant with whatever He desires. Example: Genesis 3:15NIV “…I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel.” This was spoken at the beginning of time, aka Garden of Eden— like 4000 years before it happened. Those words carried the power to create the woman’s offspring 62 generations later.

Today, we believers read-hear a prophecy, or have someone give us a personal prophetic word. (I’ve been so guilty of this.) Writing the prophecy down as such-and-such-date. Then we start looking at the calendar, — ‘it’s been two weeks since God said that. Why is it taking so long to come.’ Or we begin wondering if the words spoken are false.

In 1984 a prophet spoke a prophecy over me. Later, in 1986 another word was spoken over me with further details added to what the first prophecy spoke. Then in 2000 another prophecy came to me regarding the first prophecy. Little old me began wondering if the prophecy would occur before I died, (as I’m getting older.) Suddenly, it hit me square in the head— what if the prophecies are all for one of my offspring yet to come. Galatians 4;4NIV “But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son…” Yahweh Adonai has a set time— not a minute before or later.

Solomon explained in Ecclesiastes 3:1NLT “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” The set time will not be late by even sixty seconds, for my prophetic event, for every word spoken by the Lord will come to pass— it is impregnated with enough power to bring life at the right moment. All we have to do is wait. There’s no need to worry or try to help something along. God’s words will come to pass. Do you believe it? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God whatever You have said will be done. Help us please to become patient in waiting. Thank You, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Vulnerable Children

“…Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on My behalf is welcoming me.” Matthew 18:5NLT

Working for the children’s ministry is one of the most difficult jobs for any church and pastor to fill. Parents who head up this department head out the door as soon as their children age out of children’s church. To many smaller congregations there is no option for hiring a children’s pastor.

Children’s areas are also highly sought after by satan. He sends in child predators, pedophiles, and those without a relationship with Jesus in authoritative positions in the children department. A pastor can’t be too careful with the background checks necessary to protect his vulnerable children.

We had a couple in one church who became very angry and left the church because they weren’t allowed to work in the children’s department. They made lots of noise about background checks being ridiculous. Within a year it became known they participated in a group of married ‘swingers.’

A son-in-law of one former church member was led to go pray on the neighborhood school playground. As he walked around praying in tongues the swings began swinging violently. The merry-go-round began spinning at top speed. Noises came from all around the area. Demons didn’t like his intercession prayers in their area. Since that time he’s gone back there to pray often.

Cartoons have been headed into the demonic realm for years. Disney promoted witches, fairies, genies etc. and parents sat their children in front of the demonic garbage to have them ‘make-believe’…..yeah sure take your precious gift from God and induce them to imagine they’re a fairy princess— really? Video games glorify murder. Pokemon and YuGiOh playing cards are active parts of witchcraft cults in Japan. Matthew 18:6 says there’s a hotter place in hell for those who hurt children.

Christ has heard the cries of the children. Some are trafficked, some are horribly abused, some can’t articulate from neglect. For several years now Holy Spirit has been telling the prophets that He’s going to begin a revival in grade-school age children. Healings, prayers, and salvation will be pouring out of the children as they gather in compassion around others in need.

I can this happening. In the 1990’s I attended the Brownsville Revival in Pensacola Florida. One a couple of occasions I happened past the children’s meeting rooms as the children lay on the floor praying and crying out to God for souls in the adult services. Also, the teens would meet for prayer long before the services started. Watching those teens circle the outer perimeter of the auditorium, then bend and groan as if they were giving birth to a baby, ushered in the full alter calls as lives were changed, was amazing.

Yes, the children are vitally important to God! They are examples to adults of trust— aka faith in God. My friend told of her two year-old great-grandson. He climbed the ladder to the highest slide at the park. Suddenly he decided to not go down the slide and jumped off the ladder towards his dad several feet below. This child totally trusted his dad would catch him. Jesus said we must trust Him just like the little child trusted his dad. Matthew 18:3AMP “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless you repent [that is, change your inner self—your old way of thinking, live changed lives] and become like children [trusting, humble, and forgiving], you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Our position is to protect our children; teach them to believe and trust 100% in Jesus Christ from babies upwards; live out Christianity in front of them everyday; expect Daniel in the lion’s den miracles in their lives. Then trust Yahweh Adonai to bring them the rest of the way through. But will we? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Father God the children need You desperately. Help them to be kept from the evil one, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Anointing Is There

“…When in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ‘By a strong hand the  LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery” Exodus 13:14ESV

What Moses was instructing the Israelites to do is called —bear witness. There’s not enough word space in this devotional to follow the words ‘bear witness’ to the climatic end.

Let’s do this quickly, ‘bear’ in its simplistic form means to ‘carry.’ ‘Witness’ means ‘the act of seeing or confirming something.’

What is the origin of ‘witness?’ ‘To personally observe or be present for an event.’ Hence our text verse is an instruction to those who personally observed something ‘done.’ The Israelites were to ‘tell’ anyone asking— this is what God did and saw Him do it.

Messianic Jews today believe that everything comes full circle— what was will circle back and be again. What happened has a potential anointing to accomplish again what happened before. Anything witnessed can come again out of the words spoken telling what was seen. How? Words are pregnant with power forpgood or for evil…. Proverbs 18:21ESV “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”

These Messianic Jews are so convinced of the anointing carried in words that when someone is ill, they will send those who’ve been healed from the same sickness to go ‘testify’ to the healing over the person who is ill. End result— the sick person recovers.

We believe in this and testify— bear witness to the fact that Jesus died on the cross, rose from the dead three days later, and is now seated with God in heaven. When we testify to this event, there is enough power in these words and in the blood of Jesus to bring sinners into salvation. Regularly people give their lives to Christ Jesus on the testimony of whoever is bearing witness— attesting to— declaring truth.

This is why we must share the truthful witness to everyone. Mark 16:15-16NLT “… then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.” Without the witness no one would be saved.

—When we share our salvation story with our children, the anointing is there to see them born again. —When we share our healing story with others, the anointing is there for them to be healed. —When we share our story of miraculous income in the time of great need, the anointing is there for the same type of miracle to happen in the lives of those listeners.

Anyone qualifies to receive the anointing because Acts 10:34ESV says “…“Truly I understand that God shows no partiality,” If He has done something for one person, He’ll do it again for others. But —will we believe— that’s the only qualifier. We must believe in the testimony of the witness. Do you believe this? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: LORD God all of us have a tendency to believe that the testimony is true for another time and person. Please help us believe that You have anointed the testimony to accomplish what happened then in the here and now for us, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

The Merry-Go-Round

“How long, O simple ones, will you love your simple ways? How long will scoffers delight in their scorn

and fools hate knowledge?” Proverbs 1:22BSB

Children tend towards selfishness, sinfulness, and impudence towards parents and God. Proverbs 22:15NIV says: “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away.” Discipline is necessary according to God to remove these tendencies. 

Yet, even with discipline some children refuse to learn. Truthfully, it boggles my mind how these people can spend a lifetime going around and around on the merry-go-round of sin-heartache-no-peace without ever wanting to get off. 

There’s an acquaintance who has an adult-child who has “love(d) your simple ways” riding the merry-go-round. Over the years, I’ve watched this adult-child choose the road of hard-knocks repeatedly, always without understanding the deep need for Jesus Christ. Solomon’s wisdom tells us— Proverbs 13:15KJV “Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.”

Proverbs 13:18AMP “Poverty and shame will come to him who refuses instruction and discipline, But he who accepts and learns from reproof or censure is honored.”

As I’ve prayed for my acquaintance’s adult-child recently, It struck me— I’m only remotely involved in love and concern. But Yahweh God and the mother!!! Totally different story!  Momma doesn’t give up on her adult-child. She constantly holds this child before Yahweh. God absolutely loves this adult-child, which is why my acquaintance was chosen to be  Momma. He knew this woman wouldn’t let go of Him in prayer for her adult-child begging to draw this heart to Him. Only Holy Spirit can rescue the adult-child’s heart from the realm of darkness. One day He will draw the adult-child into the Kingdom of heaven. His grace is unending.

Then I think of the wayward ones in my own family. My love is endless towards them, no matter what they’ve done wrong. God feels the same way about them. I’m praying, interceding, asking God to bring them into salvation. There’s only two things which we can do for those we love— “pray without ceasing.” 1Thessalonians 5:17ESV 

AND “giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Ephesians 5:20ESV for all He’s doing in their lives. 

Do you have prodigal adult-children you’ve prayed for years on end. Are you praying and interceding for family members now? He hears. Will you believe the salvation is coming? It’s your choice. You choose. 

LET’S PRAY:  Father God we intercede for the souls of our loved ones and friends. Draw them, we pray, into Your loving arms, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray. ,

The Depression Trap

“In the year that King Uzziah died, I had a vision of the LORD. He was on His throne high above, and His robe filled the temple.” Isaiah 6:2CEV

Uzziah was the last godly king in Judah’s history before they were captured and moved to Babylon. Isaiah was a young man when Uzziah reigned for 52 years. Pride puffed up Uzziah’s heart. He entered the Temple and burned incense before God, the priests’ role alone. Then he left the temple as a leper.

How this sin must’ve grieved the heart of Isaiah, because he knew full well that none of Uzziah’s children were fit to take the throne in serving God by leading His people. What do we do when deep disappointment and heartbreak come?

When Lou became sick with Lewy Body Dementia I fasted and prayed; stood on God’s promises of healing; fought the fight of faith believing that God would heal him….. His condition worsened. Before Lou’s death I found myself fighting constantly against the facts I was seeing. He became more like a child while I prayed. Down to the last couple of weeks, I kept boldly praying and claiming his healing. Then came the point, where I had to release him to God’s will. My heart was breaking many different ways but the worst way was in thinking I had failed Louis in praying Lou through to healing.

Can we see Isaiah at this same point of disappointment and heartbreak I experienced? How could God actually take the last chance for a godly king for Isaiah’s nation of Judah. At his deepest disappointment God revealed Himself sitting upon the lofty throne. Isaiah saw the train of Yahweh’s robe. A huge train on the robe meant the king had vanquished every foe— even death? even pride? even leprosy? After all, there’s no limit to God’s throne.

The verses following our text reveal fiery angels flying about declaring to each other how holy Yahweh is. Their crescendos of volume escalated, as they circled the throne worshiping Jehovah God. Seeing these angels, seeing Yahweh on His throne comforted Isaiah. He could trust that God knew enough to know what He was doing.

I wasn’t blessed to see Yahweh Adonai on His throne. There were no circling angels declaring His great and awesome power for me. Instead, I had to believe God had a better plan. Facing the fact that Lou wouldn’t be there to take care of me was scary. In God’s mercy, He made known to me in two dreams, and one act of kindness that He would continue taking care of me Himself, as He’d done through Lou all those years. And He has been true to what He said.

We can look at disappointments and easily fall into the depression trap. Or we can look at disappointments, trusting that Romans 8:28ESV will prove true— “…We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” Will you trust that He knows what He’s doing? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Almighty God trusting You is rarely easy. Everything in us wants to take control. Help us to go against our normal tendencies totally trusting You, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Today’s Lepers

“When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed Him. And a leper came up to Him and bowed down before Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You are able to make me clean (well).” Jesus reached out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” Matthew 8:1-3AMP

In Matthew 5-7 Jesus gave the sermon on the mount, the ‘Beatitudes,’ how to be blessed, how to pray, and the importance of not judging others. He attracted huge crowds of people desiring to be healed.

Next chapter: On the way down the mountain Jesus ran into a man who wasn’t allowed to join the large crowds listening to Him— a leper. This man has been ostracized from society, his family, any workplace, from livelihood, everything which the average person had—all because of an infectious disease. Instead of moving freely among others, he had to cry out— ‘leper’ whenever he moved about.

As I pondered this, I thought about today’s ‘lepers.’ Who? Poor. Homeless. Drug Addicts. Mildly insane or cognitively impaired. Street corner prostitutes. All of those people who by personal choice, or incapacity have quit participating in society like other people.

Jesus got down on the leper’s level and touched him. This touch was a BIG DEAL. Religious leaders wouldn’t touch him. At the point of this touch, Jesus was now supposedly unclean. He was to begin proclaiming that He, the Christ, was unclean. His deity from the indwelling Holy Spirit was so powerful that His power absorbed the leprosy, cleansing the man and Himself completely and immediately.

When Jesus left earth for heaven, He issued a command— “…Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:15-18ESV. We have the same power Jesus possessed. The authority to use this power to heal others.

Now the “pick up serpents” thing, I believe means handling serpents are what would be considered crooks, murderers, reprobates like a ‘leper’ because of the station in life. Perhaps a harlot, a pimp, politician would be considered a serpent.

I can tell everyone for sure that the “drink any deadly poison” is for us today. Most of everything we have available to eat is contaminated by carcinogens, and a plethora of other harmful chemicals. Some foods are even plastic. Literally the global elites would like to see 6 billion of us dead. No matter what Trump and RFKennedy are trying to do the trillions of dollars are already flowing to see our demise.

We only have Jesus on our side. He’s still coming back down off of the mountain to meet what is considered by the insanely rich to be ‘deplorables.’ Jesus holds the keys to death in His possession. Will you trust Him to meet you at your point of need, to cure what’s wrong with you? It’s your choice. You choose.

LET’S PRAY: Father God I thank You from the source of my being for all that Jesus did in Bible times and even today. Deliver us from all evil I pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
