In a clatter of loud footsteps and even louder cursing, Can stormed into Good’s dorm room and fell face-first into Good’s bed. He was still mumbling into the mattress, occasionally hitting it with his fist (accidentally catching Good on the knee once), and Good debated on whether he should let Can flail whatever it was out of his system or interrupt before he hurt himself. It took a while, the pros and cons piling up in his head, but he eventually decided to reach out and hold one of Can’s hands down.
‘Can, stop,’ said Good.
Can turned his head a bit so he could pout at Good with half of his face. ‘Good! GOOD! I hate my life! Do you know what just happened? Well, let me tell you because you’re not gonna believe it, it’s so embarrassing I think I could die!’ His foot kicked in the air and he tried to squirm free but Good had a pretty firm grip on him. ‘I’ve literally never been so - can you believe it? I bet you won’t! Ugh! UGHHH!’
Good blinked at Can. ‘You haven’t told me anything yet, Can.’
Can pushed himself up to sit cross-legged with his right hand still in Good’s clasp and the other free to wreak havoc. ‘It was that asshole from the IC Department! You know, the one I punched? Still worth it. Anyway, he - he - he - ‘ Twin spots of red colour bloomed on Can’s cheeks and he clenched his fist and glared down at it.
‘...He?’ Good prompted softly. He realised that Can was really upset about this. He softened his hold on Can’s wrist and slowly drew circles on the underside of it. A long time ago, Good found out that being unhurried and quiet actually helped Can be the same. It was Good’s natural state, anyway.
Can lifted his gaze and met Good’s. ‘He kissed me!’ Can burst out, waving his fist above his head like he was going to hit someone. ‘It was my first kiss, you know, and he took it like it was his fucking right! I don’t even know him. I don’t like him. And he did it just to get back at me. What kind of person does that?’ Can slumped down and rested his forehead on Good’s shoulder. ‘I know it’s stupid but I wanted my first kiss to be special. Ugh, I get even more upset every time I think about it. Good, you understand me, right? Right, Good?’
A strange feeling swept through Good, sharp and prickly and like he wanted to punch someone. Good placed a hand on the back of Can’s head, petting him like a cat. Good tried to think through his tangled thoughts and get them past his lips but found it impossible to do, so the silence stretched out longer than usual. Can seemed to find it soothing, though, his little twitches and impatient fidgeting fading away with every second that ticked by.
Someone stole Can’s first kiss, someone he already had a problem with. Understandably, Can was upset. Good was upset, too, because this jerk messed with his best friend, but there was something else that dug its thorn into his chest. Good didn’t know what to call this unknown feeling but he did not like it one bit.
‘Can,’ he said, patting the back of Can’s head to make him pull away and look at him. The pout was still there on his lips. ‘Are you mad because your first kiss got stolen or because it was this IC guy who did it?’
‘Both! I want to forget all about it but how can I? Argh, I hate his face so much.’
‘OK.’ Good stared at that pout. ‘Then, can I kiss you?’
Can blinked at him, whatever rant he was about to let loose abruptly cutting off into a squeak. ‘What?’
They were still holding hands so Good tugged on it gently. ‘Well, you said you’re angry because someone you hate stole your first kiss. You don’t hate me, right?’
‘Of course not! I like you a lot, Good!’
Good nodded. ‘Then, you can have my first kiss.’
Can chewed on his thumbnail and stared intently at Good’s lips. ‘Do you even know how to kiss someone?’
‘My first kiss, Can,’ said Good patiently.
‘Oh, right, you said that already. Um. OK, I guess?’
Good smiled suddenly, eyes crinkling at the corners. ‘Don’t sound so excited about it.’
Can laughed and let go of Good’s hand to slap his cheek a few times. ‘No, sorry, I am excited! It’s just, is it weird? It’s weird, right? You’re my best friend.’
Shrugging, Good took his time to twine their fingers again. ‘Not really.’
‘I guess you’re right.’ Can suddenly brightened up. ‘OK, I’m ready.’
Suddenly, Good’s heart was racing. He looked at Can’s familiar face which was inching closer to his own, lips puckered kind of hilariously. A giggle bubbled up Good’s throat and it was about to break free when something soft and slightly dry touched his mouth. Good thought about the time he and Can practised kissing on their elbows, making faces at each other over their arms and Can laughing so hard he fell off the bed. It didn’t feel anything like kissing his own elbow, and Good wondered if Can felt the same way. The touch sent something bright and electric down his spine and all of Good’s focus narrowed down to the small space they both occupied. Good had always been a little slow, taking his time to process things, but his brain felt like it had been kicked into overdrive, cataloguing all of these old and new sensations in lightning speed.
Sensations like how different Can’s chapped lips felt but he smelled familiar. The way their hands grew sweaty as the kiss went on, exchanging puffs of breath as Can tilted his head to the right and Good instinctively went the opposite direction. The touch of Can’s knees against his own as Can shuffled closer, the bed dipping under their weight. The way Can tipped into him as if he was throwing himself in for a hug, something he’d done a thousand times before, but this time there was a bed under them and Can ended up sprawled on top of him.
All of these things threatened to blow up Good’s head but he didn’t want to let go.
Eventually, the need for air forced them apart, Can pushing himself back dramatically with a gasp. ‘I need oxygen!’ he cried breathlessly. His eyes were wide and his mouth looked as red as the blush on his cheeks.
Good was panting, too, and reached up to touch his lips. Can’s gaze followed the slow movement with an intensity that made Good’s heart skip a beat.
‘Was it, was it nice?’ Can asked hesitantly, looking down at Good. ‘It was your first kiss. I didn’t mess it up too badly, right?’
‘It was - ’ Good licked his lips and bit back a smile when Can lowered his head a little before jerking back guiltily - ‘nice. More than nice. Thank you, Can.’
Can broke into a hugr grin and he fell down on the bed next to Good, snuggling happily into him. ‘Awesome. You’re the best, Good. Seriously, how will I ever survive without you? Hey, are you hungry? Because I am. I just remembered I haven’t eaten anything in two hours! Can you believe that? We should go out and eat. Ooh, but I don’t get my allowance until next week. What do I do, Good? I’m broke!’
GoodCan needs to happen!
I repeat GoodCan needs to happen!
