In 1970, we opened our Berkeley, CA factory, its guiding design principles greatly informed by an optimistic strain of Californian design. Ideas of self-sufficiency, ecology, and so called “hippie modernism” abounded, influenced by pioneering architects, thinkers, and publications like whole earth catalog. The influence was immediately evident in products such as a geodesic tent – maximum efficiency with minimum materials.
