How to become Michelangelo

The first thing you must do is to not try to be Michelangelo. Obsessing over work that may be above your current level & becoming discouraged is unnecessary. The way you get to higher levels an although you may never be Michelangelo is by becoming a student to art work. Watch videos on tutorials on how to do something or how to do it better. You can learn a lot by simply viewing other peoples work & making it a positive experience by not obsessing on how much better someone else is, but instead learn from it. In the end you'll be something even better..Yourself(Corny I know but true). Why make art if your wish to be someone else, you'd be no better then a machine on a conveyor belt. Respect your work & Yourself

Sculpting tip: Finishing Touches

When sculpting it can become extraneous by investing so much time into a sculpture an you will feel like "I just want to wrap this up now". That is when things will go a rye. You put in all this work now you are about to forget that the end is just as important as the start.

If things do not seem proportional then you should not settle for anything less than what you are going for which is hard when either having a deadline or being scared to "mess it up".

Sanding is very important to the finishing up process because usually things aren't always perfect at the end so this will help smooth things out. There are many types of sand paper just look online or at videos to describe which is best for your project. Some are softer then others, I tend to use the common rough surface one you would see typically used on wood to smooth things out to give a nice finish. It is the little things that help a piece go from nice to amazing.

Sculpting tip: Heat Polymer Clay sooner than later

People may usually are caught up in the entire process of creating and shaping a piece. Then at the end what do you do? You may be busy or feel accomplished and want time to bask in the moment. DON'T WAIT TOO LONG!!! 

Polymer Clay has duo textures: it can be nice and smooth and flexible or it can be completely hard and brittle. Polymer Clay remains soft once you handle(mold) it which takes some time to do and makes your hands as strong as the hulks. But the soft flexible texture only last for a matter of hours. 

Why does it matter, right? It matters because once the figures become hard and brittle it risks cracking once you enter it in the oven. It's rare but it's a possibility  but what is a common thing is you seeing a mistake and trying to move something around. BAD IDEA!! The entire sculpture will be brittle so once you push anything around it will begin creating cracks and worse break or tear something. Meaning you'll have to find a nice way to attach and smooth it out without moving the rest. 

So remember make sure you are COMPLETELY DONE, nothing to edit and try to heat in the oven soon after you finish within a couple of days, sooner the better.
