His  absence  was  not  as  long  as  it  once  was.        Not three years passed, but only a few hours. Jason is there to meet him like an excited puppy waiting for an owner to come home. It is in times like these that he realises how much his absence truly did affect not only Emma, but all the people in his life. Once a mentor to the younger man, and then, one day -- poof, gone.

Ryder could not say that he didn’t cancel his plans to hang out with Kurt. The other sounded like he needed it, though, and he had no qualms with cancelling plans. He might not have admitted it outright that easily but the other was far more important to him than most people. Instead of saying any of that, he gave the other blonde a crooked smile before he shrugged his shoulders. 

“You think that I’m a lot more social than I actually am. I appreciate it, though.” Ryder perked up a second later as he raised his eyebrows. “So. Got any plans for what we’re gonna do or are you relying on me for ideas?”

The last thing that he wanted was to tell Liam that he doubted that that would work. All he wanted to do was lay there. Wallow in whatever he was feeling and the fact that he had no idea what he was feeling, anyway. Ryder appreciated the fact that his brother was trying to be supportive and make him feel better. But he didn’t want to feel better. At least not yet. And he didn’t want to do anything or go anywhere. Liam might have a better chance dragging Ryder along with him than getting him to agree to it. “You think that that’ll help right now?”

Teasing seemed to be a second nature to the two of them. Over the course of their relationship, both had seemingly come out of their shell a little bit more and became more obvious with the things that they wanted. It was part of the reason why Ryder was not afraid to tease the other for what seemed to be hours. Bring his boyfriend to the edge before staving off — Holding him at the in between of it being way too much and not enough. “Gonna admit it yet?” The sound of Ryder popping off of Charlie’s length was more than a little obscene. The corner of his lips curled upward as he considered the other, his flustered state. “Do you wanna drag this out any longer?”

“Are you sure that you’re okay?” Despite the question, the blonde wrapped his arms around the younger to pull him against his chest. Ryder did not bother to hide his worry from Jason — He never bothered to hide how worried he was about the younger man. It was something that he naturally fell into, after all. The worried older brother role that he fell into easily. “You’re seriously okay?”

“But I didn’t.” A grin spread across his features as his attention turned toward his brother. He was rather cocky for someone who easily could have died. After all, he did not have the same healing abilities that Liam and everyone else had. He had to be careful when he wanted to help out. There was no telling what injury could end it all for him. That did not stop Ryder from running into things head first, though. “It’s gonna take more than that to kill ma, ya know?”

“Why would I leave you and not come back?” After everything that the two of them had been through, there was no way that he would just leave. He never would have thought of leaving Jason at any point. Ryder was loyal to a fault, almost. There was no way that he would even think about abandoning the other like that. “You think that you can get rid of me that easily?” The blonde joked instead. Tossing a grin over his shoulder at Jason, his attention was quick to focus ahead of them again.
