THE GOOD QURAN, PT 38: SURAH 39

I kinda padded this surah with some filler because I had so little to talk about, given that it’s all just a “STOPPPP BEING POLYTHEISTS” rant. But we got it done in four days, which isn’t too bad. 4/75 (5%) of the surah was good.

All of them are “good Muslims go to heaven” ayat. 39:10 promises that those Muslims who do good will be rewarded in the afterlife, as does 39:34. 39:35 adds that Allah will forgive even the worst sins of Muslims..... honestly idk if this is actually good if taken to its logical extreme, but whatever. 39:53 likewise says that Allah forgives all the sins of Muslims. That precedes a long rant about how he does not forgive disbelief, which leads us to the Good Quran’s counterpart...

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 36: SURAH 37

Barely 3% of surah 37 was morally worthwhile. We got 6/182 pieces of positivity here, and with all of them I am really stretching the definition of “good”.

There were a lot of brief prophet stories this time, and most of them followed a formula of “thus do we reward the good”, in reference to Allah instructing blessings to be invoked over the prophets’ names (the PBUHs and such) by later generations. That appears in 37:80 after the story of Noah, 37:110 in the story of Abraham, 37:121 after Moses and Aaron, and 37:131 after Elijah. Lot does NOT get one because he is homophobic and hates Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018).

Two weak “good” ones are 37:100 and 37:112, in which Isaac is described as “righteous”.

Look... I had very little material to work with here!!

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 35: SURAH 36

Brothers and sisters, I have returned from bringing a small village in rural Malaysia to Islaam by showing them an egg and explaining how our Prophet (SAW) knew this egg is the shape of the earth, in the seventh century. A miracle.

Some disbelievers will tell you, “there was literally not a single good ayah in Ya Sin. Really! Not one! Not even by my horribly generous standards! It’s a total waste of time!″. This may make you have very intellectual questions. Such as: why is the book of the Almighty God contain chapters that have no good information in them? But let us reconsider “good”, its meaning. For this surah, while not morally good it is true, is good in other ways.

As a medical doctor, I can confirm that this chapter serves the purpose of explaining science greater than West practiced despite being over 1400 years in the past. This proves the truth of Islam and its superiority. Therefore why do we need this called “good” thing, when we have something better, which is the truth?

All those who consider this will arrive at the same conclusion.

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 34: SURAH 35

Surah 35 has two (4%) lonely good ayat. They are both of the usual good-Muslims-will-be-rewarded variety.

35:10:

Whoso desireth power (should know that) all power belongeth to Allah. Unto Him good words ascend, and the pious deed doth He exalt

35:32 is also a good-Muslims-go-to-jannah ayah, at least in part:

of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. That is the great favour!

We read 45 ayat for that....... smh.

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 32: SURAH 33

Well... let’s see.

3/73 (4%) of Al-Ahzab contains positive and/or happy thoughts. 33:29 is your standard good-Muslims-go-to-jannah ayah, with an extended form of the same thought in 33:35. 33:70 tells Muslims to speak clearly or correctly, depending on the translation. Not much of note here, but at least it’s something...?

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 31: SURAH 32

There is one (1/30, 3%) good ayah in surah 32. Please enjoy.

32:19:

But as for those who believe and do good works, for them are the Gardens of Retreat - a welcome (in reward) for what they used to do.

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 30: SURAH 31

Luqman ended up being pretty okay!! A full 20% (7/34) of the surah was good, which is a very high percentage by the Quran’s standards. The bulk of it was in the first section, the one that contained the titular guy.

31:4 is the first decent one, defining “the good” as those Muslims who pay zakat. They are “successful” in Allah’s eyes, according to 31:5, and they will go to jannah (31:8, repeated in 31:22).

In Luqman’s speech, the not-prophet advises his son to be grateful to his parents (and Allah) for taking care of him in 31:14. He then tells his son to be kind and persevere (31:17), and to avoid arrogance and boastfulness (31:18).

Well, it wasn’t the longest Good Quran section we’ve ever had, but the surah itself was short. Onto the Bad Quran.

THE GOOD QURAN, PT 29: SURAH 30

There were 4/60 (~7%) good ayat this time around, but obviously the real good part of this surah was learning all that Middle Eastern history, right? ...Just go along with me here, ppl.

We’ve got our customary “good Muslims go to jannah” ayah in 30:15. Then there’s a genuinely nice one in 30:21, in which Allah says he “ordained between you (husbands and wives) love and mercy”. Lo! Why can’t you be like that all the time instead of talking about wife-beating and shit, Allah? You can be romantic when you want to be!

Finally, 30:38 is a brief mention of charitable giving, and 30:39 says that Allah approves of this practice.

Not too bad, all in all, by the Quran’s standards. Now let’s see what’s on the other end.
