TrumpRx is pretending like it’s helping consumers more than it is.
From New Republic:
TrumpRx, the website launched by the Trump administration Thursday to sell discounted prescription drugs directly to consumers, is offering a whole lot less than advertised. The drugs offered on the site are all from brand-name manufacturers, making them more expensive than generic brands. Almost all of the drugs are also covered through insurance already. The product pages on the website even say, “If you have insurance, check your co-pay first—it may be even lower.”
In other news: Release the Epstein files. Release the Epstein tapes. Release the 300,000 lawful immigrants from ICE concentration camps.
If I ever need to prove that I’m a US citizen I’ll just show them my most USAmerican text
Who the hell is Walgreens ordering from that this $0.60/pill-on-GoodRX-medication allegedly cost them $6/pill.
For the love of gd guys. If you don’t have insurance or your insurance sucks, or you have crazy high deductibles, PLEASE look into GoodRX. It’s free!!! I got a member with a crazy high deductible a coupon for their medication for 10 dollars. From over 100 dollars! Please! Please use GoodRx!
The complaint could result in improvements to consumer health privacy.
I cannot stress this enough, if you have medications that you have trouble affording, even with insurance, PLEASE download the GoodRx app or check out their website.
GoodRx is a FREE service that you can use to look up coupons for medications and compare the prices at different pharmacies. And you can then use those coupons when you go to the pharmacy to pick up your medications.
I'm not even joking, my doctor just placed me on a new medication that would've cost me about $38. But GoodRx found me a coupon and now I only have to pay $13.52, that's almost 65% off.
The best part is that you can use it for literally ANY medication, even for medications like insulin and antiretroviral therapy meds.
They DO have an optional membership you can buy that gives some extra perks, but the standard search function for discounts works just fine and is completely free.
huh! I've got good rx insurance coverage and always assumed goodrx would only be useful for an rx my insurance WON'T cover, but now I'm going to take a closer look!
Yeah, you can only use one or the other (insurance vs goodrx) but cheapest available price is cheapest available price. I think the only every-month medicine I have where my insurance is better is my frova (migraine rescue like imitrex). Actual retail cost with neither insurance nor goodrx is $463 to $714 here. This month the same medicine goes from $103 to $179 (depending on which pharmacy I search) this month on goodrx.
In this specific case, it IS still WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for most of us. But even at the best retail price and the worst goodrx price, that’s still sixty-two percent off.
