I’ve been making pixil sprites for my D&D players and figured I’d give some background. 

This here is Gaelin Garrick: Forest Gnome, Intellect Cleric Extraordinaire, and handled the most adorable member in the party. He comes from a secluded community and so looks at the world with wide-eyed wonder. None of us are entirely sure why someone so wholesome is with our merry band of murderhobos, but here we are.

Heyo, in light of being asked earlier by good ol’ Elstine to make a little positive thread of my own regarding some of the good times I’ve had around here you’re all stuck with this on your dash now. If you haven’t had a chance to see the original spark to things, take a look here:

Then maybe consider some of the people who’ve made your day just a little brighter in game, in life, in general. As Elstine put, all of us here, roleplaying, are here for stories; emotions, the reactions and efforts we put in to our characters and scenarios for others and for ourselves. Whether it’s grand-scaled adventures across worlds or in your favorite tavern, it’s all about the relationships built between characters and friends we all fall in love with along the way and the emotional rollercoaster we all seem to put them on, strap them in, then fail to mention there are no brakes- no dutiful carnies to maintain, oh and the broken tracks half way through. Don’t worry you’ll be fine. So here’s my little blurb of friends and good times.

When I first came here, to Wyrmrest that is, things were very new for me. The game wasn’t, I’d been playing for about two years at the time but the people were like a drastic overhaul- (that may be because I came from Horde to Alliance). No idea where to go, what to do, it was a completely new start with one friend who convinced me to give it a try. We’d done RP in other games before and this time she wanted me to try my hand at starting a guild here, developing a full story and seeing where it would go. Over the next three years we were active and going strong and boy did we have some cards... One person played a sailor, a tad strange he was and at the time our guild offered bonuses to combat-couples. Now being the man that he was he only loved the sea, and his boat. No man nor woman ever held sway over his heart, but damnit he wanted that bonus- so what did he do? That’s right- he married his boat. Our entire group was there to wed a man and his boat off the coast of Stranglethorn;laughing, crying, confused we loved every second of it. And that’s just one instance, I’ve done things with, and DM’d events where people have avidly tried to seduce cave bears, furniture, and even fire so that it wouldn’t hurt the group. I watched people try to create a humanoid tower to make a WoW Megazord- (look it up you heathens), fight with lobsters taped to their hands, or attempt to use balloons to safely lift treasure out of a crevice when I told them “you can’t lift it out by hand”. But, There have also been tough times. Through RP friends have come and gone. Friends you knew for a long time move on from the game, from a character perhaps, and even though it’s just a game...it’s so much time you put in with people. You don’t regret it, but man do you look back on them fondly. I’ve been torn apart by allies sudden death in a campaign from something that started as simple as a cold but we couldn’t find medical supplies. Allies sacrificing for one another, aiding one another, anything to tug at the heartstrings for a 2 hour RP session that just leaves you sitting there at the end thinking.

Even recently we’ve come to a close on our story. Five years. Five real-life, human years spent planning, scheming, and goofing with friends that were once strangers over a game is now finished. All of us, once allies, trusted and loved...drawn into a war pitting friend against friend. Lover against lover, brothers turned on sisters...but not once did it bleed over into OOC problems. Murdering one another in some of the most heinous ways possible, and my God do I mean it got bad. But we’re still just as close now as we were years ago. What comes tomorrow, I dunno. New characters may not interact with one another, the next guild may be something entirely new- or, perhaps the next generation and we see another 5 years playing together, who can say? As I’ve kind of rambled on here thinking about old times it’s probably best I wrap up. So! In closing: It’s not hard to show kindness, or positivity. People may just be what you see in the character, text on a screen, or the occassional voice over Discord/ Curse/ Skype/ ChristianMingle... but they’re people. My friends I’ve gained over this game are all one in a million, I wish them all a happy birthday every year, a merry Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa actually to 1, even though I still don’t know wtf Kwanzaa is... and when I hear anything’s wrong, we’re all there to lend an ear or what we can. We’re all here for our entertainment with our friends. To build stories and characters with one another to those we let in, don’t be one of the people trying to tear out the pages of those books. The best advice: Don’t be a dick. So I’m still new-er to this whole Tumblr side of the RP spectrum, not a lot of friendos around and not really sure if any of my old buddies have it so now it’s your turn. If you made it this far reading, first- why? I’ve got you right where I want you now. Second, think about your good times. Make a little post maybe, send some love, show everybody they’re appreciated even as a mass of pixels. And ask them if they’d like to form a human Megazord with you, we all just gotta fit together to make something cooler. Seriously, look it up.

Good Times Roll - Episode 1: The Mad Kings Castle

So, me and my friends sort of did a thing! This is the first episode of our D&D stream. There are still kinks that need to be worked out, but I think it went pretty well. If you like swearing and blood and terrible choices in your D&D podcasts, this is a good place to start.
