PrePear Unable to Create A Recipe to Shake Off Apple’s Legal Claims
Recently, Apple – the tech giant has sued a small business, Prepear, claiming that it has copied their iconic logo design.
Prepear is an all in one food retailing application that lets users store recipes in one place, you can also plan your meals on the app, make the grocery lists, and get your groceries delivered at your location.
The name of the company is based on fruit so, one can easily tell that the company can have a fruit shaped logo design, as this doesn’t seem out of the blue thing. However, Apple doesn’t seem to agree on it.
In a statement of the court filing, Apple has stated, “Applicant’s Mark consists of a minimalistic fruit designed logo along with a right-angled leaf, which readily recalls Apple’s famous Apple Logo design and creates a similar commercial imprint.”
Previously Apple has filed the same case on dozens of other small companies that consisted of a fruit shaped logo design. Due to having low budgets, many companies could not fight back and ended in giving up on their logos, while others among them have to shut off entirely.
Perpear is a small business, and they cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars to fight back the tech giant, so they took the matter on social media. Prepear has filed a petition at Change.org to get support and make their case stronger. Till now the company has received above 37 thousand signatures.
The co-owner of Prepear, Natalie Monson, shared a link of the petition on the company’s Instagram profile and has requested the supporters to share it as much as possible.
Until now, no other statement from Apple has been given against this petition. The result of the case filed by Apple is yet to be announced. Now we have to wait and see which one of the two companies will win the case.
