That is precisely why I say they had no goddamn idea what story they were telling.
And like... it makes sense, doesn’t it? If you live in a patriarchal society, and you live in a system of misogyny, it’s expected you’ll reproduce it in your art.
What’s staggering is how they managed to nail down the heart of the issue, write a story about dismantling the system, AND STILL have no goddamn awareness of what they were writing.
Or, you know, I have zero access to the behind the scenes there. Maybe there were people in the original Madoka team who knew what they were doing; and they were not there to salvage the flaming garbage fire that is Rebellion.
Well, they can pry my 12-episode anime about lesbian love saving the day from my cold, dead hands :)

I’m some form of colorblind, I think. Because I’ve seen those dot tests before and some of them I just cannot read the numbers to save my life. Especially when the number and the rest of the dots are just different shades of the same color.

Honestly I totally agree because everything to do with Elektra just seems a million times less compelling than Frank Castle's stuff
I am very irritated with how they are writing Elektra (and I haven’t finished the season so you know no spoilers, but I think I know what happens). She’s such a promising character and I’ve seen comic quotes that give her so much depth, but they limited her (or at least so far) to just “badass snarky rich girl” who deep down just wants to be loved (specifically by Matt). Like really???? that’s the best you could do?? They have so much to work with but they just can’t be bothered which is sexist garbage. I mean let season 2 be frank exposition, or Elektra exposition, then give the other character the next season. And Frank is hollow too! He’s better written because he’s not just a female cliche pulled out a box by sexist writers, but he’s a whole other set of cliches and they slapped his backstory on almost as fast as they slapped on Elektra’s. Like a bandaid for their “bad behavior”, when each should have been given time and exposition. It’s just this trend I notice a lot in TV where writers go for Breadth rather than Depth. They add more characters to bring the excitement that way, rather than diving deeper into the characters they already have on their plates, adding value and interest to the plot that way.
I saw a great article quoted the other day (author was Charles Finch) about forms of suspense, there’s the trick and the art of suspense, like JK Rowling uses the trick, introduces new elements and mysteries to ponder “where did this item come from? who’s behind this event?”, while the art of suspense relies on revealing the true nature of characters and forcing them into decision points, like in Pride and Prejudice and Breaking Bad. Both can be great, but the need TV has to just chuck shiny objects and the viewer and hope it suffices instead of plunging deeper into characters is just a serious bummer all around. It’s lazy, lame, and yeah. Bummer.
The phantom’s level of “creepy-as-fuck-stalker” varies greatly depending on the adaptation. Most people these days are more into the whole “dark and tormented soul who despite everything does actually genuinely love Christine” thing, but yeah- the Phantom definitely can (and should, IMO) be read as straight up Old Man Stalker McCreeperson.
