Children with behaviour issues & emotional / empathetic deficits are exploited like modern day freak shows for shock value. All the time there’s a brand new video going viral about a horrible awful evil kid, with comments calling for them to be beaten, deprived of anything and everything they enjoy, or institutionalized for life. They’re humiliated by parents who record them being punished in ways that are scientifically proven to be worsen these traits, and then publish it on social media where those kids are subjected to insanely violent threats by thousands if not millions of people. Or they’re made a pariah on reality tv and talk shows.
Nobody cares about them. They’re the ‘evil child’ people have been waiting for as an excuse to express their deep violent urges towards children in general. They’re an exception to protection, love, dignity and humanity because they’re not real children, they’re animals.
Almost no one stops to question what created the behaviour. Only the child is punished while sympathy is expressed for the adults who are more than often than not at fault in the first place. It’s all about how the parents must be so scared and exhausted, never about how much suffering a child must have to endure until their ability to connect and empathize with others is severed. Do you understand how much abuse it takes to do that to a social species?
I have nothing but a deep sympathy and pain for children who were just like me, because I know firsthand how we’re seen and treated, all the while we’re suffering at home with no one to truly protect and care for us or understand us. They are some of the loneliest children in the world, surrounded by people who continue to withhold love because they believe it’ll change what a lack of love and neglect created in the first place.
Parents and teachers need to stop filming these kids and posting it on the internet for others to gawk at.
I'm a teacher (currently unemployed but yk) and I totally get that caregivers might need to vent about a difficult caregiving situation where they feel unsupported but that can happen without violating a child's privacy and exposing their behaviour to thousands of strange adults who do not have the whole story about that child and why they are acting that way.
Just don't fucking post any pictures or videos of minors on the internet unless its a picture of yourself that you're sharing with friends on private social media.
