Gorham & Cadillac Cliffs Trail
Trail Difficulty: Moderate
My Favorite hike in Acadia National Park lies just off of Park Loop Road, right across from the Ocean Path on the eastern side of the park. You’ll find its trailhead in the parking lot just past Acadia’s famous Thunder Hole. Luckily for this hike, there is parking right at the bottom of the trailhead, but on busy days you may have to seek alternate parking on Park Loop Road or at another location along the route since parking fills fast.
The Gorham Mountain trail is an easy hike for most families and is typically where I bring beginner hikers at Acadia since the trail isn’t very steep and has steps laid out where it goes up. It also features the path maker Waldron Bates Memorial.
It is simple yet charming and has a beautiful view of Otter Cliff as well as Sand Beach when you reach the top of the mountain.
If you are looking for an added challenge and beautiful rock structures, you will want to take the Cadillac Cliffs trail up to the top. On this trail you will experience climbing over rocks, through tunnels, over bridges, along caves, and on iron rungs. It adds excitement to the short hike up this 525 foot mountain.
I hope you enjoy this hike as much as I do!
