Soooooooo... cat!reader x Gorou huh?
I am just gonna absolutely ignore all of the stuff of angst I've seen and instead turn my brainrot into fluffy hurt/comfort, with a side dish of angst for the hurt
Also I'm ignoring rn in my brainrot the new dog hybrid thing because my head just went a completely different route ngl
So what if, after that in heat thing, and with reader becoming a bit more, less close, maybe? don't know how to say it rn. But what if after the war has ended the reader feels like going away for awhile. Because they very much still have feelings for Gorou even if they try everything after that to get rid of them and act nonchalant
So reader talks to Kokomi and asks if they may leave for awhile to go back home to Mondstadt, and of course they're allowed to do so
What if at one point reader actually also tells Kokomi about her feelings and problems because quite obviously Gorou is not interested in it and Kokomi is just understanding and all of that bit shes also like "I'll have a talk to Gorou about this" to herself which doesn't happen for a long time because war and then war is over and gotta work on all of that after war stuff-
And then someday Gorou comes to her telling her that y/n is missing, he's totally trying to play it off and that he's totally not scared and worried because they've been distant already and now they're just gone, his ears being droopy and his tail swishing against the ground while he's walking
it's only then that he gets told that y/n went on a small vacation back home.
He can stop worrying now. You're safe and just on a vacation. In a land so far away. With people that are just like you. He can now focus on his tasks again - wait don't get him wrong! he totally wasn't being disrupted by his concern for y/n! He totally has been himself even after that time y/n was in heat! it's totally not like his heart felt heavy whenever he saw or thought of y/n! totally not like his whole mood dropped whenever y/n seemed so much further away from him even with y/n being right there!He totally wouldn't like to snuggle with y/n again even for just a tiny bit like when they were in heat! Oh no - why is his mind now going places of y/n possibly finding a mage while away and why does his heart pain at that thought so much? They're just friends. just.. friends.
He doesn't even realise he was talking to himself aloud in front of Kokomi until he looked at her and saw the knowing smirk she had
cue Kokomi questioning him further about that worry, concern and pain he's feeling
cue an absolutely embarrassed and dense Gorou he doesn't even realise his own feelings damn
cue Gorou thanks to Kokomi finally figuring himself out, Kokomi thankfully doesn't say anything about y/n's feelings at least not directly, she's pretty sure that the general can figure this one now out by himself
When y/n returns they are back with a lot of souvenirs from Mondstadt that they thought they could give to her, friends. yeah they're all only friends. they totally don't have a crush on one of them.
in the time away in Mondstadt it would be funny one of their relatives adopted an actual dog, like I just find that idea funny. And what if they talk to some relatives about their situation with Gorou and their relatives are just super supportive and telling them to not give up??? they also are given a lot of catnip to cheer up
But what if once they're back from vacation, and have already gone to meet up with Kokomi, they decide to go on a small walk and just enjoy wherever their feet takes them. Enjoying being back in Inazuma, a place that feels like a second home to them
and then all of a sudden they get attacked by a group of treasure hoarders - and don't worry! it's fine! they're a soldier that fought in the war and made it out alive! - but these are actually quite many, and they're all alone - oh shit oh no
And then the treasure hoarders all of a sudden get shot with arrows, leading to y/n swiftly turning around in the direction the arrows came from, staring at the figure they know oh so well that just now saved them and that they missed oh so much
someone please help y/n, their heart is beating too fast and heat is rising to their face quickly, they did not to just get saved all of a sudden in the first time in quite awhile that they see their crush Gorou again and damn he actually looks good???
They don't even register when Gorou came up to them and questioned if they were okay, concern clear in his voice
They can only nod in return
Awkwardness seeps in, neither knowing what to say or do
y/n is about to suggest heading back, when Gorou suddenly speaks up, ears dripping low with a voice showing that he isn't amused apparently
"you've a bit of a smell of a different dog on you."
The moment realisation of what he just said sets in Gorou's a blushing mess unable to make any words out
They just start laughing because that sounds like he was jealous - and they say so too! to which his blush only seems to worsen too! Something seems to have changed while they were gone
A quick explanation of that one of y/n's relatives had adopted a dog - surprising right? - and that they spent a lot of time with that relative later, and they're both on their way back. Gorou seeming a lot more happy - I wonder why /s - but also very nervous, the blush still lingering on his face, quite intriguing

from there on out one could notice that while the teasings and lil pranks and stuff have kept on going, the general also seems, hm, more, well, soft? maybe?
he is constantly bringing reader fish and catnip and just brings reader things that he thinks they might like,
or he's being more protective of them when someone does or says literally anything about their cat side. Actually not just that, you could notice his ears immediately turning towards a conversation when it was about them. his gaze falling immediately on even the slightest of touches they've with someone. Seeming to try and make sure that nobody is trying anything. As if they would when they all know at this point they're both down bad for each other
Imagine Reader and Gorou getting tricked into going on a nights out together, alone
what if they somehow end up cuddling with each other
no words being said, neither knowing what this means for them they're just friends, but do they want to be just that? are they really fine with that?
