I just went through the same process! I’d recommend face-to-face convos when possible bc you can get a much better sense of what they’re like. I could tell pretty quickly if the person was someone I wanted to live with once we got to talking. And I really like my new roommate, so it worked out!

Tuvok wouldn't want to, but Janeway would sweetly bully him into it, and the rest of the senior staff would assume he'd be awful so they quickly team up (I can see Chakotay giving Janeway a sheepish shrug when B'Elanna grabs him). But they forget that Janeway and Tuvok have been friends for years, and can read one another ridiculously well, so even the really difficult ones - Harry puts in some obscure Bajoran clarinet piece - they just own everyone and Tom is like "HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET SONNET 18 OUT OF THAT ONE GESTURE?" and Janeway is just like, "how could you not?" And not so secretly Chakotay is super jealous. lodessa agreed. I think part of it would be what he sees as a greater duty - Kathryn really is the only one who could have gotten them home. He knows that's how the crew feels, how he feels, and while she's willing to risk her life for the crew, he isn't. But he knows that the other part of it is simply that he can't - won't - lose her. Not to an enemy and sure as hell not to herself. ...now I want to write The Void fic. Damn.

That’s so funny, the book I was looking at for inspiration was compiled by Nye! I really loved Hidden, I will have to check out more of her work.  Thank you, darling!

“I thought you’d be happy I’m finally relaxing, Cha-ko-tay.”

Kathryn flung her arms wide, wobbling slightly, and he forgot that he was keeping his distance and reached out to steady her.

“Careful there, Kathryn.”

“You smell nice,” she declared, running her palms over his chest.  She was drunk, first year cadet drunk, “You feel nice.”

Tomorrow she was going to be so angry at herself for this, if she was unlucky enough to remember. Still, it was good to know it was in there.

I’m pretty sure the same thing happened the first time she told him she loved him and he made her repeat it like twelve times because he’d waited so long for her to do so.
