Got-djent.com did a "Favourite releases of 2013". And you can select at most five favourites. AT MOST FIVE FAVOURITES. Only five? Are you fvcking kidding me? 2013 was so full of amazing new albums and releases. It's so inhumane.

"Djent is not a genre, it's a community"
I beg to differ, djent holds many characterists which in my opinion, make it a genre.
Firstly, most djent bands have a unique guitar tone. We all know that they usually use 8-string guitars or 6's or 7's which are downtuned, but this has nothing to do with the tone itself. Making use of amps which push the low and mid frequencies are quite common too, thus making the tone distorted yet very clear. Vocals are usually ranging from high pitched cleans to mid-screams. Drums play another crucial part in the band as it is after all, a very rhythmic genre. Djent drummers are of the best in my opinion, their footwork is of exceptional quality and they incorporate various styles from genres such as jazz, hardcore, death metal, etc. Songs are quite technical and make use of various time signatures. Polyrhythms/polymeters are almost a must and plays a definite key role in djent. The songs consist of these grooves which can range from 16th notes to quarter notes. Then lastly, the overall production of their albums are at the top of line. Quite a few djent bands operate from "bedroom-studios" where they only track vocals and guitars and use amp-modelling software such as Line 6 Podfarm to create custom made guitar tones. Drums are mostly programmed by using software such as EZDrummer and Superior Drummer. These points I have stated could apply to most subgenres of metal but I believe that djent is in fact, a genre and not a community.
