My heart was racing. I checked behind me, I don't know if I lost them. There were so many of them before. Mindless groaning, dragging feet, the sounds all started again.
They were coming from all over now. I was surrounded. There was no exit. I had backed myself into a corner. No one could really save me now. Not even myself. My gun had run out of ammo long ago and as much as I wanted to, I couldn't just smash skulls to freedom.
My only hope was to scream for my life. I mean it couldn't do any more harm. I was already almost sure to die a slow painful death.
"SOMEONE ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I DON'T REALLY REALLY DON'T WANT TO DIE THIS WAY!!"
My lungs burned from the screaming. There was an ugly looking zombie staring me down. Half of his face was gone and I cringed at the thought of what happened to him. That was my soon awaiting fate. I let out one last yell as said zombie lunged for me. My arms shot up on instinct, a gunshot rang out knocking the body motionless to the ground. I stood in shock, the adrenaline leaving my body. My knees wobbled as I fell to the ground, letting out a relieved sob.
My eyes darted all around as the zombies were taken down one by one seemingly from all directions. One person came stalking through the dropping bodies. He looked like he'd been through hell and back but his aura was extremely calming.
His arm hooked around my waist hoisting me up.
"Shhh.. you're gonna be ok, but I need you to calm down and walk with me. Ok?" He smiled warmly.
I nodded warily, willing my body to listen to my mind and this guy next to me and movies. He kept his arm on my waist holding me close and keeping his gun hand free as we walked the exact path he had come from. I now noticed the other people shooting the zombies, each coming down from their pirch to finish the job. There were 7 of them all together. One of the smaller groups I've seen in these conditions. The zombies fucked with all of us, most thought living in numbers was safer.
My mind was pulled from my reverie when we turned a corner, approaching a car. I stopped in awe, I hadn't seen a working car since this all broke out. A few months ago at least. This thing looked almost impenetrable with its army green exterior.
"Don't just stop and stare, get in. We need to make sure you weren't bitten." One of the others boys scolded, coming up from behind.
The boy with his arm around my waist sighed
"Don't worry about him, JB seems to always be in a rotten mood." He rolled his eyes playful. Seemingly hoping to make me a little more comfortable.
"I'm Jackson by the way."
"I-I'm (Y/N)" I mustered. My mind already going in so many directions.
Who were these people anyway?
Jackson helped me into the car, even buckling me in. He seemed to think I couldn't really fend for myself, and I couldn't really blame him but my body was still in shock from almost dying.
It was amazing I was here at all, I should have died. I should have died. I shouldn't have been here so what stopped that?? Why didn't god just take me? Why am I still living in this apocalyptic world? My mind started to race again and my breathing picked up.
"Jackson, I think she's panicking!" A boy situated to my left yelled. I hadn't noticed him getting in. I really hadn't even noticed the car starting to move either.
"I'm driving! You're next to her Yugyeom, calm her down." Jackson yelled back, meeting my eyes in the mirror. "You ok (Y/N)?" He lowered his voice.
I whimpered in response, forcing my head into my hands a sob ripping through my body. The reality of what had just happened really hit me.
In one swift movement my seatbelt was off and I found myself in the arms of 'Yugyeom'. His large hands rub up and down the entirety of my back.
"Shhhhh...hey hey, you're in a car away from all that now. I'm your new friend Yugyeom, you have to calm down for me. You have to take nice deep breaths, in and out...in and out. That's a girl!" He praised as I followed his instructions. In and out and in and out. I really did need to calm down now. He was right.
My sobbing quieted as he continued his mantra. I hadn't noticed how exhausted my body truly was. My eyelids were fighting to stay open. Jackson was staring at the flutter of eyelids as I tried to stay awake.
A new voice started talking.
"It's ok to fall asleep, we're not going to hurt you. You're safe, we can keep you safe"
Another hand patted the back of my head. My eyes finally drooping closed.
"Poor kid, thank god we found her. Who knows what could have happened"
"Please, someone would have been bound to find her with the set of lungs she has Mark"
The voice of 'JB' was the last I heard before I drifted off to sleep.
