It was a Saturday morning, some day in June. The sun was shining, it was a beautiful day basically. I heard a knock on my door. I wondered who it could be for a second before recalling having invited my best friend Amanda over. Apparently, she had some exciting news.
She blabbered away for about 5 minutes straight before I could even mutter a word. She took a deep breath and continued, calmly this time:
"Okay so turns out my dad's work friend is working for JYP Entertainment in South Korea. Guess what group he manages."
"Hum, Twice?"
"No, stupid, GOT7 who else? My dad agreed to fly me to Seoul and he said you could come along!"
My mouth dropped, my ears not registering what she had just said. It took me awhile to process the information.
"Are you serious?"
"Of course I am! My dad's friend even said we could stay at the JYP dorm for our visit."
I had to pinch myself to make sure I was awake, the whole thing seeming too good to be true. A wide grin made its way to my face and tears of joy started forming in the corner of my eyes. As the news sank in, I thought about one small detail.
"Wait, when would we leave?"
"After the final exams. Oh and don't worry, your parents already agreed to let you accompany me."
I hugged Amanda tightly, exhalted and grateful for the opportunity. I thanked her about a million times before she let go of me. The both of us fangirled for a few hours, going over everything we would do when we'd get there. I hadn't been this happy in a long time.
Time went by slowly after that encounter, it seemed like the trip was in forever. Exams were stressful enough, all I wanted was a vacation. It's funny how slowly time passes when you need it to fly by the most.
It was finally the big day. I had started packing weeks prior but I still felt like I was forgetting something. I left in minimal attire, following Amanda to her dad's car.
We landed in Seoul at around 1pm. We were amazed at the differences in landscapes and cultures. My mouth was agape, the modernity of the airport blowing me away. Amanda tugged on my sleeve, dragging me along to meet someone waving a sign with our names written on it. He was our designated driver, I assumed.
He led us to his car, the sight of all the beautiful flowes and trees blossoming making the painfully long plane ride all worth it. The car ride was quiet until our driver turned on the radio. Ironically, a GOT7 song blasted through the speakers. The driver halted in front of a tall building. He carried our luggage inside as GOT7's manager greeted us.
"Welcome ladies! My name is Kim Hyunwoo but you can call me Mr. Kim if you like. Amanda, your dad has told me so much about you. Who's your friend?"
"Oh hello, my name is (Y/N). It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."
"The pleasure is all mine, dear. No need to be so formal, though. Let me escort you girls to your room. Make yourselves at home and if you ever need anything, don't be shy."
We nodded, thankful for the warm welcome. Our dorm room was as big as a suite and had all the necessities: a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and even two separate bedrooms.
"I have to go back to work. I'll let you girls settle in and I'll call you for dinner plans later on."
We thanked him in unison as he closed the door behind him. We looked at each other and started screaming and jumping in excitement. My life felt like a dream and I couldn't believe it was ac tually real.
Still feeling jetlagged from the plane ride and the time difference, we both agreed to sleep for a few hours. At 7 o'clock, the sound of a phone ringing disrupted my peaceful nap. Amanda mumbled a few words before entering my room.
"Hey, get dressed. Mr. Kim wants us to meet him in the lobby for supper."
I groaned in frustration, but complied nonetheless. I grabbed a light purple hoodie, light blue jeans and threw them on. I tied my hair into a messy ponytail and slipped into my Nike sneakers.
When we made our way to the lobby, we recognized Mr. Kim waiting for us but were completely apalled when 7 heads we knew all too well turned to look at us as well. They walked towards us and Amanda immediately hugged every one of them while I stayed back, frozen in shock.
"Did I forget to mention the boys would be joining us? My bad...", their manager smirked.
I bowed shyly at the idol group, feeling way underdressed in their presence. A blush warmed cheeks as we headed out of the building. They took us to eat traditional Korean BBQ and the food was delicious. We had some Korean restaurants back home, but this one was on a whole other level. We spent the whole evening talking and getting to know each other. It was actually pretty fun, they were like regular people minus the celebrity status. On our way back, we stopped for ice cream. We stared at the menu, wondering what to order when Bambam nudged me.
"Which flavor are you gonna take?", he asked in fluent English which made me smile fondly at him.
"Probably raspberry, you?"
"Chocolate." He smiled.
We stood in front of the building and exchanged goodbyes. Amanda hugged them once again while I just waved awkwardly. She always knew her way with people but me, not so much.
