My dad told me not to trust white people and my mum told me I was no different from other Swedes. You can tell this made me a bit confused … ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The illustration was made last year, in the midst of Black Lives Matter, and I thought about all the children catching glimpses of the news reports. And their parents. How can we possibly explain that kind of violence against dark-skinned people? Without putting all the weight of centuries of oppression on their tiny shoulders?
