Darkwave, a genre incorporating elements of new wave, post-punk, and gothic rock, is experiencing a resurgence.

Artists like Mareux, Molchat Doma, and Boy Harsher are leading the charge, blending nostalgic sounds with modern aesthetics.

TikTok has played a significant role in popularizing these artists, with songs like "The Perfect Girl" by Mareux (a cover of The Cure) and "Судно" by Molchat Doma going viral on the platform. 

2. Classic goth rock resurgence

The enduring appeal of iconic bands like The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and The Sisters of Mercy continues to draw new audiences to the genre.

Events like the Cruel World Festival, featuring a mix of classic goth and new wave artists, highlight the ongoing popularity of these influential bands.

Many contemporary goth artists are reviving the sounds of the '70s and '80s while adding a fresh twist, according to GRAMMY.com. 

3. Diverse range of modern goth acts

The gothic music scene is far from monolithic, embracing a wide array of subgenres and artistic expressions.

Modern goth bands and artists pushing the boundaries include:

The Kentucky Vampires (gothic rock with a distinct Louisville, KY flavor)

Scary Black (solo project with electric energy and a deep baritone voice)

Twin Tribes (dreamy, romantic sounds akin to The Cure)

Black Angel (deathrock with a focus on rhythm and danceability)
