4, 9, 14, 25, and 27 for the Fenhawke asks 💖💖

4.) When did your Hawke and Fenris’s romantic relationship truly begin? Was it after the conversation about the Fog Warriors or at a different point? Did they go out on dates, or were things more of an unspoken connection between them? How public were they about their relationship? How far and how fast did this relationship progress?

after the fog warriors conversation is a pretty good point id say they had a closer relationship in that regard. it was never something explicitly agreed upon, but they instinctively started watching each other’s backs in battle more, walking together, and hawke started initiating some small touches. maybe just an arm around the shoulder, a brushing of hands, friendly gestures (especially at the hanged man). but anyone with two eyes could see how they looked at each other, even if they didn’t announce a relationship.

i like to hc that their first kiss was actually before the romance scene. a small, goodnight kiss on their way walking home together, the day before they head out to the wounded coast and a bitter pill triggers. neither of them really talked about it on their journey to the coast, feelings still getting sorted out and everything, but they were still as big of love sick puppies as ever.

then of course, everything happened in that quest. in my canon, hawke assures fenris he’s a good friend to him and here’s there for him, and fenris comes back later with all his desires: highly emotional but also wanting, especially after the goodnight kiss. 

9.) How did Hawke give Fenris the favor? When did Fenris start wearing it, and how did Hawke feel about seeing Fenris wear it during the breakup?

it was immediately post-sex actually. as far as hawke was concerned, they’d just had this wonderful experience and he considered himself in love. laying in bed together, hawke got up and tied the favour around fenris’s wrist. but i hc that hawke told him that he’d tell him what it meant in the morning, as he was tired and a little apprehensive about confessing strong feelings like that.

so, fenris kept it, without really knowing what it meant. it was a gift that hawke wanted him to wear, so he wore it, and it was only after they got back together that they had the talk about it and hawke explained to him the tradition, that he’d always loved him.

it was definitely hard for hawke to see him walking around with it post-breakup. he knew it was his own fault for not telling him what it meant, so he deserved the heartache, but a part of him selfishly clung onto the idea that fenris might come around. if it never happened, well, he supposed he’d just never tell him what it really meant, for fear of ruining their friendship.

14.) What was Hawke’s reaction to Danarius? Did they immediately fear him or hate him, or did concern for Fenris overtake other emotions? Would they have killed Danarius if they’d gotten to him before Fenris did?

definitely FUCK FUCK FUCK ITS THIS FUCKING ASSHOLE as soon as he started speaking. 

i think its reasonable to assume that there would be a little fear, given that he knew the man was capable of horrific things, and had no sense of guilt for how he destroyed fenris’s life. but all of that was put on the back-burner for concern and defence of fenris. hawke wanted fenris to know that he had his back no matter what he wanted to do (though he sincerely hoped that he still wanted to rip his heart out)

as for killing danarius without fenris there, i dont think so, not unless he was going to be killed first. he wouldnt want to finish him off, he believes that fenris should have the pleasure of doing so: enact his own revenge and take back whats rightly his in that way. 

25.) If you write fic or create art, what is your favorite part of the Fenhawke romance to portray?

as much as i love angst and dark writing, i think my favourite part is just their chemistry. their shared humour, the way they bounce off one another, and their total unconditional support of one another. 

27.) What drew you to the Fenris romance? What is your favorite part of his romance?

i knew before i bought dragon age 2 that i was going to romance fenris. i mean look at him, he’s beautifully handsome, and it was a delight to me to find out he was bi. give me those gay relationships bud!! 

also you cant do this to me, cant make me pick a favourite part, it’s all good. ALL OF IT. i think any dialogue that makes fenris laugh and the scene where they get back together in act 3 definitely has to be up there though :)

Kiss prompt #1 for Durill Hawke/Fenris! 💖

Hawke awoke to a warm weight pressed against his chest and wondered for a minute why his mabari was on the bed with him. The next minute he spent pondering why the bed was so damn hard and stone-like and why the fireplace was in the wrong spot on the wall and why the walls of his room looked like Fenris’s. Then the weight shifted and grunted in a way that was distinctly Fenris, and the events of the previous night came rushing back to him.

“If there is a future to be had, I will walk into it gladly at your side.”

They had kissed then, Hawke sweeping Fenris up in his arms as he’d wanted to countless times over the last three years. It didn’t seem real, somehow, that now he was able to do that again or that Fenris was snuggled up against him, his cheek pressed against Hawke’s chest, his head just under Hawke’s chin. Hawke tightened his arm around Fenris’s waist, pulling him as close as they could possibly get. He twisted his head to look down at the elf in his arms and kissed his forehead. Fenris hummed but did not appear to wake. Hawke watched him sleep until his neck got a crick, and then he brushed his lips across Fenris’s forehead again and curled his body around Fenris’s as much as he could before dropping back off to sleep.

The next time Hawke woke it was to the sensation of something moving across his face. Fenris’s warmth had migrated somewhere farther away, and he frowned and grumbled his disapproval of the situation. Then the thing against his face moved again, and he realized it was Fenris’s nose, followed by his lips, nuzzling and kissing at his cheeks. He nosed back and Fenris chuckled, his lips quirking into a smile that Hawke could feel against his face.

“Good morning,” Fenris said, and Hawke heard reflected in his voice his own sense of wonderment and pleasure at being here, together, finally.

“Mm,” Hawke agreed, and reached up to wrap both arms around Fenris and tug his body back on top of Hawke’s. Again Fenris laughed and Hawke savored the flipping sensation low in his stomach at the sound. He’d missed that feeling, the pleasure of being able to make Fenris laugh like that. He hadn’t tried often over the last few years, wanting to respect Fenris’s space and boundaries, but now he never wanted to stop.

He buried the fingers of one hand into Fenris’s hair, closing his eyes and pressing his head against Fenris’s as he tightened his arms, hugging Fenris close. Fenris pressed his head back against Hawke’s for a minute, then wiggled slightly to get Hawke to relax his grip. When he did, Fenris levered himself up with one hand and looked down, a frown creasing his brow. His other hand traced the wrinkles above Hawke’s own eyes.

“Hawke?”

Hawke shook his head, knowing there wasn’t anything he could say. His words never were fully adequate at the best of times, fragile, loaded things that they were. So instead he captured the hand running across his face in his own, kissing the fingertips then the knuckles then the palm before holding it against his cheek as he sat up to claim Fenris’s mouth with his. Hawke felt the weight of the last three years begin to dissolve, yielding to the warmth seeping into him from every point of contact between their bodies. He let his hand fall from Fenris’s hair, running it down Fenris’s cheek.

“You’re here,” he said, refusing to fully break the kiss to speak, loathe to let any space separate them. “You’re here.”

Fenris laced his fingers with Hawke’s, holding that hand to his cheek. He kissed Hawke, a gentle brush of lips, and kept his eyes, wide and soft and green, open and fixed on Hawke’s soulful brown ones. “Yes, Hawke. I am here.”

And your Hawke is a rogue who fought at Ostagar, right? That must make things so awkward.

Yeah!  And I usually have Aveline in my party for Demands of the Qun. Loghain's my canon Warden for DAI, too.  

And I never thought I'd like it as much as I did.  Hawke's relationship with the Warden never came across as actually being friendly (and my Hawke is definitely the sort of person to use sarcastic finger quotes every time someone says 'Hawke's Warden Friend'), and having to deal with Loghain after being at Ostagar made the way Hawke is in DAI fit a lot better for me.

I have a prompt request. You once mentioned that after Hawke and Fenris get back together, Donnic and Sebastian confront Hawke and ask him about his intentions toward their friend. Would you be willing to write more about their conversation?

The game was just winding down as he walked in the door.

“So that’s seven for Donnic, two for the abomination,”Fenris said. There was a warm, relaxed amusement in Fenris’s voice as hecounted up the night’s wins, and Hawke paused at the sitting room’s thresholdto watch him. The elf’s smile was not such a rare thing these days, but itremained a sight to behold.

“I’ll pay you back,” Anders said, and he sounded a littledefensive. Donnic shrugged.

“We can call it a wash,” he said. “After what you did for myshoulder sprain last week – “

“That’s not the way it works and you know it.”

“I’ll cover it,” Varric offered. He tossed the coin on thetable as he rose. “Come on, Blondie. Walk me back to the Hanged Man.”

“I can cover my own debts,” Anders grumbled, but he rose aswell, and pushed in his chair, and froze when he saw Hawke in the doorway. Hehad had trouble meeting Hawke’s eyes over the last few weeks. Hawke caught anexpression of surprise, displeasure, and unhappiness before the blond lookedaway.

“I’m a little early,” Hawke said. “Don’t rush off on myaccount.”

“If I lose any more money, Aveline will skin me alive,”Donnic said. “Best to quit now.”

Hawke stepped aside so that Anders could pass through thedoor, and frowned at the other mage’s retreating back until Varric thumped himin the belly.

“I know that look,” Varric said. “Don’t let him get to you.He’s…moody.”

“It’s been weeks since – “

“I’ll handle it,” the dwarf insisted. The mansion’s frontdoor slammed as Anders let himself out, and Varric shook his head. “He’ll getover it,” he promised. “Drinks at the Hanged Man tomorrow?”

“Yeah,” Hawke said, though he continued to frown. “I’ll bethere.”

“See you, then. And stop frowning.”

“We’re just getting cleaned up,” Donnic said. “You know ifwe don’t help he’ll leave it here for weeks.”

Fenris, counting his wins, didn’t look up. “I fail to seehow it’s your business how long I leave it,” he murmured. He was still smiling –a small, pleased expression. Hawke liked seeing it.

Donnic said, “Hawke, help me with the dishes,” and Hawkeshrugged, and pushed away from the door, and followed him into the kitchen.

Over the years, Fenris had allowed Hawke to do repairs tothe mansion when necessary. He’d allowed Donnic to come in and tidy up when theguard badgered about it enough. But there was a definite difference in hislivingspace since Danarius’s death that marked a turning point in his thoughts –the moment when the mansion had stopped being a mere shelter and became hishome. The kitchen was tidy when they walked in, if still sparsely decorated.Merill had provided the curtains and the potted plants in the window. Thechipped dishes were put away in the cabinets, the floor was swept, and thecounters were free of clutter.

Hawke took up a (clean) dish rag and took his place at thesink. “I’ll dry,” he offered, and Donnic set the water running. Sebastian camein with the rest of the dishes from the snacks the guys had helped themselvesto during the game, and he busied himself with them, putting away leftoverswhen there was enough, scraping what wasn’t into the garbage bin. Donnic washedthe dishes. Hawke dried them and put them neatly in the little drying rackAveline had bought for the elf.

“Fenris seems happy these days,” Donnic said idly, as he usedhis thumbnail to scrub at something caked-on.

Hawke grunted. It took him several moments before herealized he was supposed to answer.

“Happiness looks good on him,” he answered at last.

“And you two,” Donnic said. He handed him a dish, made sureto catch Hawke’s eye, and met his frown with a smile. “You’ve gotten very…close.”

“We’ve always been close.”

“Right, of course,” Donnic said, and began to scrub the nextdish, and ignored the way Hawke was staring at him.

“The thing is,” Sebastian said, “Fenris is at an importantmoment of growth in his life. He’s been through the gauntlet of pain, and it istime for a new chapter to begin in his life. One of happiness, fulfillment.”

Hawke turned his stare on him. He said, slowly, “I think youshould say whatever it is you’re trying to say.”

“Well, I know you two were physical once before. That thatwas years ago, and sometimes the body gets cravings…”

“What Sebastian is trying to say,” Donnic interjected, asthe dish rag slowly began to tear in Hawke’s clenched hands, “Is that we bothjust want to be sure you aren’t promising Fenris anything you aren’t reallywilling to give.”

“Maker’s balls!”Hawke said. He threw the rag down. “I’ve been in love with the man for sixbloody years – what more do you want from me?”

Donnic lifted his hands. Sebastian said, “It’s just that wewant to be sure you aren’t – however noble your intentions – trying to press anadvantage you shouldn’t. Are you planning to commit – oh, now you’re standingvery close, aren’t you?”

Hawke said, “Get to the point.”

“It’s not a bad thing, really – wanting to know how you feel,” Sebastian said.

“Fenris is our friend. We want be sure we understand what your intentions are,”Donnic clarified. Hawke began to growl – low, menacing.

Neither of them backed down.

After they left, sometime later, Fenris cornered Hawke inthe sitting room – leaning over the chair in which the mage sat, with his handson either arm rest, effectively pinning Hawke where he was.

“So,” Fenris murmured, that smile playing at his lips, hiseyes meeting Hawke’s without difficulty, gaze warm and confident. “You plan tolove me for the rest of my life, do you? Spend every waking moment fixed solelyon the acquisition of my happiness?”

Hawke frowned at him. He said, “You shouldn’t listen in on otherpeople’s private conversations.” Fenris lifted a brow.

“Do you intend to lecture me?” the elf asked. “Or would yourather join me upstairs? I have my own intentions,tonight.”

Picture this: Fenris and Hawke snuggled up together in bed. Fenris curls up into Hawke’s side and pillows his head upon Hawke’s chest, while Hawke rains down kiss after kiss upon Fenris’s soft, silver hair, eyelids, his precious nose, and lips. Fenris is very happy and comfortable and safe, feeling utterly cherished in Hawke’s arms.

Fenris feeling comfortable and safe is so important, it’s one of my favourite things. its so good that he can finally feel at ease with someone, particularly love it when its Hawke. Hawke would do anything to make him feel loved and safe.
