personally in my own gay utopia ed doesnt actually have any internalized homophobia and the reason he can't admit he's in love with oswald is because oswald sucks
as much as i think ed and oswald should've gotten together pre-timeskip, i really really love the idea of ed only realizing his feelings while he was in arkham, because it means that depending on your headcanon for when he has his "oh. oh" moment, he had a LOTT of time to fantasize about oswald before they were reunited. oswald in those deep red glasses. oswald smiling through vicious threats and murders and others' blood on his face. oswald looking all soft in his robe with his hair undone. all the things ed realizes he loved when he'd seen them the first time.
and then the first time they see each other in TEN YEARS ed has all of three seconds to process that oswald now is wearing a top hat, monacle, a frighteningly purple jacket that does not fit him (thicker in the middle.), and yet he still wants to absolutely raw him. cinema
for completely hypothetical reasons... would anybody be interested in reading some sort of modern au (ed/oswald endgame) fic wherein ed and isabella are dating and oswald is his secretly pining irrationally angry roommate? this idea came to me at work like a divine prophecy and now i desperately want to write it
When they sleep together, it’s always at Oswald’s. He can’t bring himself to fall asleep in Ed’s new apartment. Even if that woman never set foot inside, it feels too mundane for them, too easy for Ed to slip into thinking she might be the one sleeping in his arms. At least in the mansion, Oswald has the comfort of environmental control.
Ed, gentleman that he is, doesn’t tell Oswald that he’s noticed those little roots of anxiety, swelling and threatening to grow over until there’s nothing left of him but thriving, rotten insecurity. Maybe it’s because Ed loves him. Maybe it’s because Ed would sooner die than acknowledge Oswald’s lingering possessiveness. Maybe it’s both.
Whatever the reason, Ed stays determined to treat him well. Currently, he’s rolling his hips over Oswald’s, worrying small, red-purple bites into his chest. Oswald’s eyes flutter open. He didn’t notice Ed taking off his shirt. Upon closer inspection, he realizes Ed’s shirt is gone, too. He’s more hurt he missed that.
Ed leans in to suck one of Oswald’s nipples between his teeth, a quiet laugh escaping him when Oswald whines in response—Desperate, high, and purposefully feminine.
