Seth had left his office to grab a late lunch back in his suite, preferring an hour away from his work scattered all over his desk in the form of notes and spell books. It gave him the opportunity to clear his mind and relax before returning back into the fray for the rest of the day properly refreshed to finish off what he’d been working on. As much as he missed having Shade living in the suite with him now that the cambion moved into the village, he did find some peace in having an empty place for a mid-day break. He could decompress better in silence with a blunt and a cup of tea, the latter something he’d switched to recently in an effort of cutting out caffeine. He’d really gotten into trying out healthier habits in the last few months and mentally and emotionally felt better as a result. It also helped that a certain councilman had left the castle in that time and Seth couldn’t have been happier to no longer be forced into Gotrik’s stupid games or stress about the safety of himself or Shade and Todd’s lives if he didn’t comply.
Apparently all good things must end. He had no way of anticipating it as he strolled back to his office after his break, no way in knowing that things would not roll on as the day usually did. When Seth opened the door and saw the familiar tall form of Gotrik Stenberg sitting in his chair, he physically yelped and jumped, quickly clapping a hand over his mouth as he stared with wide eyes. “What the fuck!” he yelled. “How did you–– When did you––” The witch stood up straight as he collected himself and closed his office door, not wanting to attract a scene from any of his coworkers. “You know you’re not supposed to disrupt me on work time,” he reminded, narrowing his eyes at the tall vampire. “I’m disappointed to see you back. I thought you’d left here for good.”
