ABUJA (Reuters) - Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan sacked four ministers including aviation minister Stella Oduah, a close ally, in the latest in a wave of government changes ahead of elections next year. Jonathan also removed the ministers of Niger Delta affairs and of police affairs, and the deputy finance minister, the source said. A new Queensland?
Tomorrow is the state election here in Queensland. The Labor party has been in power for approx 14 years and for the first time in a long time, and in a very big way, they are likely to lose. A change in government will mean a big change to the public service, and to the state generally. The policies and priorties will be different as will many things that affect us all. I am very interested to see how it all pans out. Politically speaking, I am apathetic - I don't have an allegiance to a particular party. To be honest, I don't believe either deserve my vote as they are both flawed, and their campaigns have been more about slinging mud and trying to destroy each other, rather than telling Queenslanders how they will run our state and serve its people best.
As a public servant I want to know how the current departments will be broken up and reformed as new entities; whether our specific team will follow certain sections of our current organisation as it is attached to something else. What will the department be called? What will my new email address be? Will we shift to another building?
All these things. All these questions. I am not the only one.
Whatever the elected party decides I hope they tell us quickly as I am excited for the change. I need it - something fresh. Flush out the old blood and old-school public servants. In with the new.
