Speechless.
Have you managed to offload the nightmare that was Abu Dhabi in the last six months?
“I don’t know if I… I mean that will always be with me. I think when anyone experiences trauma… Cause it a traumatic experience when you lose something that you worked hard for. Or whatever it may be. I think that will always be a part of me, but I would like to think that… I’ve gained strength from it I would say and just reminder myself of the strength I have within me.
“It’s not something I’m looking back on and thinking about, ever to be honest. I’m just really looking forward. What I’m grateful for is: still the love that I have for my job. For the sport. And the support that I have within the sport, but also seeing the change that’s slowly starting to happen. And seeing people being open to… You the allies that I have - I would say - within this sport.”
F1-drivers Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso, Charles Leclerc, Sebastian Vettel, Carlos Sainz and Daniel Ricciardo give their opinion on the last lap safety car situation
Windsor says Abu Dhabi 2021 should have ended like Australia 2023 “That, to me, was absolute proof, again, of what went wrong in Abu Dhabi and I still feel very hot under the collar about that as well. I still think it’s rotten that they completely blew that and Lewis Hamilton was robbed of that eighth title in that one incident.”
Lando Norris on a Max being allowed to overtake a few backmakers [him included]
“I am not too sure what was said from the FIA. First we weren't allowed to overtake. So, if that influenced decisions against Mercedes and Lewis and they didn't do the pitstop. Then the FIA changed there minds that we were allowed to pass. Then that I am not sure.”
Daaaaamn. I wasn’t expecting a Spanish newspaper to go this hard and be so pro-Lewis. Let alone Marca.
The final paragraph summarizes why Mercedes must go on with this. Not to claim this title, but also for the integrity of this sport:
“For the purposes of the Netflix docuseries 'Drive to Survive', the climax of the 2021 season was perfect, almost too perfect.
It will attract eyes to the sport, with new fans thinking it is always that dramatic, but then how does F1 keep that attention? Do they ensure there is a dramatic finish on the final day next year? What about the year after?
At the end of the day, when all the dust settled on the season. The work of Hamilton and Verstappen was rendered worthless, with the championship not decided on skill or strategy, but merely by a race director making a decision solely focused on drama, and that can kill a sport.”
