is this just a better and less cringey version of pokefarm
proper capitalization for once because I didn’t expect this to be so long omg
I didn’t play pokefarm for very long, so I don’t know how to compare them really. I like GPX+ a lot better (though I do really like pokefarm’s idea of different types of shinies). I’ve played it for 11+ years. I don’t really use the forums (haven't event touched them since I was a kid), and there’s been a bug that sometimes makes it hard to log in on both the game and the forums at the same time, so I can’t comment on that. My Pokedex and eggdex are 99% and 90% complete.
Its clicks = maturity system is kind of like pokefarm’s. There’s no trading, so you have to get everything yourself. You can get legendaries and novelties (fakemon) through the Shelter from others releasing them, or through events or fun little story-driven explorations. You’re also sorted into a random affinity (like a Harry Potter house I guess?) which determines what trinkets you can get without trading and your team for site-wide shiny hunts. It also has an effect on the appearance of a few novelties. (Go team Wulfenite!)
Bit of a tangent here, but I’ve been on an exploration to get my first Arceus for a few months now, called Death of the World. I go through them very slowly so usually they last a month or two, but this one is particularly brutal because of how many clicks you have to give. The fastest completion time anyone has had on this one is 23 hours though. Adding to the brutality, you need to hatch shinies to get the item needed to start the exploration. Eventually if you do this exploration for the 17 other types, the 18th will be a normal Arceus. I’ve been on 41/51 explorations, and none of them has even come close to this. I don’t often do more than skim the stories, but this one has actually kept my attention; I love the premise.
One event I really like is the site-wide shiny hunt (SWSH), which takes place for two weeks every other month. Users vote for which mons they want to hunt that month, and you pick from the 3 winners. There’s often a lot of maturity multipliers to make hatching easier. Every user who hatches a shiny before the hunt ends gets the prize - usually a voucher, summon item, or evo item for a new canon mon or novelty - and prize points to spend in the permanent event shop. Those who don’t hatch a shiny also get some prize points.
There was actually a brand new event system and temporary shop set up for this month’s event (two admins just had a baby), so that’s how I got my shiny Mew.
A few of the novelties were made for the site admins, but there’s actually a ton of really cool ones like MissingNo., Primal Dialga (PMD), Fake Groundon (Jirachi movie), fossil mons that look like fossils, Crystal Onix, Pudgy Pidgey, Mewtwo’s clones, and a party hat Wurmple.
There’s also an achievement system which can reward you prize points, items to summon legendaries, and more. There’s a trinket collecting system which doesn’t do much but they’re cool to look at. Trinket trades are anonymous. There’s a battle system (against NPCs), but I haven’t used it other than for explorations. Obviously there’s a breeding system too.
Friends don’t really do too much I think. Adding them to your Pal Pad makes it easy to find their profile, and you can click all of the Pal Pad mons at once.
All of the Galar mons haven’t been added yet. Usually new mons are added through an event, and the playerbase typically votes to shiny hunt them at the next SWSH to increase availability.
I guess I can show off some of my PC. It’s a mess because I’m running out of boxes. The only ones left for me to buy are really expensive.
Here’s what my party was when I started typing this.
You can also set up a custom skin for the site. I chose the Dusknoir theme then changed the yellows to teal.
I fall in and out of love with GPX+ a lot, primarily because it can get really slow when there’s not a SWSH or holiday event going on, but it is fantastic. Although they’re two completely different types of sites, I rate it equally with FR in terms of my enjoyment. If I could only ever play two browser games for the rest of my life, it’d definitely be these two.
