Despite my occasional frustration, we always seemed to work things out, and soon she quickly fell into step with my life like she always belonged there.
“Hey I gotta go make a call, can you keep an eye on this shit for a second?”
“Okay?”
“Seriously Luna, make sure he doesn’t do something stupid.”
"Just go make your call. Olin will be fine, trust me. Now go.”
“Like fuck he’ll be fine, I swear to christ it’s like you don’t know your own damn cousin.”
“Olliebeeeean! You made it to the living room!” My brother’s voice stormed through the cloud city I was peacefully living in. Clearly I should have stayed out of view.
“Oh dear god…”
“Come brother.. Come hug me.” He continued as he stumbled clumsily toward me. Being a bundle of military brats hugging was not exactly a common occurrence on this branch of Rasks. So even under normal circumstances this would be a fucking awkward request. “I love you, like I know I’m a dick but brother I do love you. Do you love me? We used to be friends.”
In preschool maybe.
“Come on Sad Thor, just embrace the moment,” Somehow his bff wasn’t quite as lost as my brother was. Motherfucker was probably more used to popping shit like that, “Fuck knows you know you need a good cry.”
“What happened? Why won’t you let me be there for you?” Fin’s voice cracked like he was about to burst into tears.
What a strange reaction and one I was sure he’d lose the memory of before they night was done. It would be like it never happened. Fuck it shouldn’t have happened but of course with Luca around this sort of shit always did.
“And why the fuck you aren’t asking her yourself?” Grace teased after I explained why Leiv and I had awkwardly stumbled over to her apartment unannounced. She was lucky enough to live practically next door to Luca and I had a bad habit of leaving my phone at home.
“I uhh…” I mumbled mulling over that suggestion. That party really wasn’t my ideal first date for a woman I might legitimately be interested in.
“Don’t act like you don’t want to.” Grace continued, “You’ve been crushing on her so hard lately.”
She wasn’t wrong about that. Sancha was basically living rent free in my dreams.
“Plus you know she’s into you too, I had those damn croissants.” Leiv added his thoughts to the mix.
“She made you fucking croissants?!” The small woman shouted with a tinge of jealousy to her voice. Grace and I had been working on our bread making skills for the last year. She probably would have loved to have one. They were technically perfect.
“Yeah, they were really great too.” I replied wistfully, this girl was proving to be real trouble for me to ignore. Worst still I didn’t even mind.
The girls.
No way in hell was I going to stand down there while they did their little transaction. I was still annoyed with my brother putting Zoe through that.
Of course it was then, with the thought of Luca being all happy on e, I suddenly remembered I had Grace ask Sancha to come. Why the fuck did I do that? I mean maybe I really should have just told him to leave her the fuck alone, that she clearly didn’t like him if she wouldn’t talk to him herself, but saying shit like that might have revealed my actual feelings.
Besides nothing spurred that guy on quite like me telling him to fuck off.
