The Unbroken Success of Laura Hillenbrand
The holder of a doctor of ministry from the Denver Theological Seminary, Pastor Clay Peck leads the Grace Place congregation in weekly worship. Outside of his service to Grace Place, Clay Peck enjoys reading. His favorite nonfiction book outside of the theology genre is Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken. Since Laura Hillenbrand released Unbroken in 2010, the novel has appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List, both in hardcover and paperback. The paperback edition has held the number-one spot in nonfiction for more than five months. Based on a true story, Unbroken narrates the experience of Air Force lieutenant Louis Zamperini, an Olympic distance runner, whose plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Left to survive in a raft, he later faces capture by the Japanese military. The film adaptation, directed by Angelina Jolie, premiered in theaters last December, with Jack O’Connell playing Lieutenant Zamperini. Unbroken is Laura Hillenbrand’s second bestselling book converted into a movie, following Seabiscuit: An American Legend.

LIVING BEYOND THE MOMENT
Long-term success requires good vision when making decisions. We are living in a culture of “instant gratification”. Many daily decisions are made, both big and small, based on what looks right for the moment. In many cases there is an absence of a moral guide. Ethics are, for many, relevant to the moment.
When life is lived in this reckless fashion, the crisis around the corner is of our own making. Some refer to it as Karma, but in truth it is simply facing the consequences of a life lived in the moment and for one’s own satisfaction and pleasure.
Successful Decision Making requires:
1. A Clear World View: What is life? Where did we come from and where are we going after this life? Were we hatched, spawned or created? These are some of the many larger questions of life that we do not give enough thought. But, in the end our World view is directing may of our decisions on a daily basis.
2. A moral compass: It is impossible to navigate without it. That compass will lead you in “right decision making” and warn you when you are heading in a destructive direction.
3. A Surrendered life: A famous singer of our day penned these words in a song: “you gotta serve somebody”. In the end we all do. We may serve our career, a person, a cause, a deity an object or just ourselves. Service is the lens through which daily decisions are viewed.

Ancient Looking Guys!
Pretty much Historical!
A bit Serious!
Sure they were! The one on top was John Wycliff. The middle guy was John Huss and this guy on the right was Martin Luther. (I told their stories last Sunday)
They were guys of long ago...they lived during the Medieval Times. They lived and died defending the Word of God! They fought to preserve the Bible so that we can have one today and so that we may know how God loves us very, very, very much! So that we may know how to live our life now and so that we may know what will be our future!
Are you concern on what the Bible tells about your life...
& that definitely you can rely on it?
Visit Grace Place Sunday June 15, 2008, 4 pm. I will tell you more about these things.

VOLUNTEERING TO WIN! (A Journal Entry June 18, 2008)
Tonight I asked those who were with me 2 Wednesdays ago in the 'Vision Casting Night' to join me in Volunteering to WIN for God...There were 10 who responded: 1 lady & 9 gentlemen! Mind you some of them were very new at Grace Place!
I called them the '300' not the Spartans but of Gideon's (Judges 7: 8). So they shouted "HO - H0" led by Gerou!
I believe God will inspire those who would like to join tonight yet, with pressing matters to attend to or due to financial constraints, they can't. God will pour out His Spirit to them same as to the 2 chosen leaders who were not with Moses near the Tabernacle as he consecrated the 68 other leaders (Numbers 11: 24-26).
Tonight I presented 4 simple ways to get a WIN for God at Grace Place:
BE A WARMER by always being present at Celebration Sundays & on time, so that the guests (the target WINs) will see the warmth & excitement in our church family.
JOIN & BE "COMMITTED" TO A GRACE GROUP to mature socially & spiritually so that you maybe ready to lead people to become a WIN. You can't lead unless you're one step ahead of them.
ENLIST IN A SERVING TEAM so that you may be able to practice attending to a potential WIN.
INVITE FAMILY MEMBERS & FRIENDS because they are the best candidates to become the WIN as they are the closest persons who know you & saw the difference in your life since you've met Jesus.
As a result of this presentation I was amazed how all of them volunteered to win a WIN by enlisting in the following Serving Teams: 3 enlisted at the Pit Stop Team (even the only pregnant lady would like to volunteer in the Pit Stop), 2 newbies & 1 serving Grace Placer would like to become Grace Group Leaders. And of course the rest were willing & whole heartedly offer to continue their service in the teams they are serving now. Grace Placers these 10 volunteers will approach you & will talk with you about the details of what they heard tonight or share with you materials they got from the meeting. If no one approaches you you may approach me for a talk & the materials on how to volunteer in WINning! HAVE AN OPEN MIND ON HOW TO VOLUNTEER TO WIN A 'WIN'
THERE'S LIFE IN A PLACE OF DEATH!
'THIS IS ONE OF THE SPOTS IN THE DEAD SEA AREA'
Just the name of the place you feel death. The Dead Sea doesn't sustain life, no sea plants & sea creatures. Yet in the holes (center of the picture) discovered LIFE (1947)! The Dead Sea Scrolls - copies of the Word of God! It has power. It is living & can change your life beyond you can ever imagine!

DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW THIS 'WORDS' CAN CHANGE YOU?

Kung Fu Panda & a FREE Movie Ticket for You?
I almost missed its showing. No time na, gabi kasi ako nagwowork though I'm a pastor & not a call center officer.
The movie was hilariously funny, yet there were moments you'll say 'ohhhhh!' On one hand even if it's an animated film I think kids will wonder why their moms, dads & yayas are laughing.
Every part of the movie has something to do with the later sequence of the story line which made me & the other viewers attentive while giggling or brawling out loud. All the animals like Po, the Panda lead character, and the rest of the gang rendered their parts effectively comical & serious. The cinematography WOW! Not to mention the effects very breath-taking & enticing.
The theme? Being caught up in the thing you really wanted to do but finding out later that the task was impossible & that you were a misfit. The complication was...too late to back out! And that you've got to save the person who inspired you, whom you learned to respect & love. In the end you didn't only save him but the entire community as well.
I have a good news: we're going to include Kung Fu Panda in the next message series in our church family "Grace Place at the Movies!" That's an interesting series for three Sundays. We will feature movies & dig up the spiritual lessons we can get from them.
Be our guest at Grace Place starting this June 29 & we'll give you a free movie ticket!
If you're a Grace Placer & a regular attendee bring a friend that you haven't brought yet at Grace Place to get avail also of free movie tickets for you & your friend!
