The Unbroken Success of Laura Hillenbrand
The holder of a doctor of ministry from the Denver Theological Seminary, Pastor Clay Peck leads the Grace Place congregation in weekly worship. Outside of his service to Grace Place, Clay Peck enjoys reading. His favorite nonfiction book outside of the theology genre is Laura Hillenbrand’s Unbroken. Since Laura Hillenbrand released Unbroken in 2010, the novel has appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List, both in hardcover and paperback. The paperback edition has held the number-one spot in nonfiction for more than five months. Based on a true story, Unbroken narrates the experience of Air Force lieutenant Louis Zamperini, an Olympic distance runner, whose plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Left to survive in a raft, he later faces capture by the Japanese military. The film adaptation, directed by Angelina Jolie, premiered in theaters last December, with Jack O’Connell playing Lieutenant Zamperini. Unbroken is Laura Hillenbrand’s second bestselling book converted into a movie, following Seabiscuit: An American Legend.                           Â
