Currently, Jefferson feels absolutely guilt-ridden when around his dearest daughter. He feels like he has failed her at all the points of being a father. He had left her when she needed it, he had been gone for far too long. And when they finally reunited she wasn't his little girl anymore, she belonged to someone else. Even still, he had tried hard to make it work, he wanted to make it work. Most of all, he wanted his little girl back in his arms, to hold her and do silly hide-and-seek games with her. Have tea parties, go into the forest. He knows now she is too old, and he missed it. He missed her childhood due to his own foolish desire to give her more. Above all, he feels replaced; though he knows this other man takes good care of her and she loves him. Therefore, he has began to shy away from her, wishing her nothing but happiness. Even if she can't find that happiness with him anymore.
