So Grade jobs seem to be the main way that people get into jobs after uni.
Some of my friends are applying to lots of random ones. Big banks, corporate firms, firms which I don’t think they even know what they do. A lot of genuinely are interested in that field, so for them applying there, it makes total sense and I couldn’t be happier for them when they get the job.
But I can’t help but get the feeling that a lot of them are like me. They are applying there because they don’t know what else to do, but truly, they really don’t want to be working there.
As I already said, I love making videos. I love making entertaining content and then seeing people’s reaction. So for me, production made sense. Only thing is, (especially as far as my parents are concerned), that’s like saying I want to be a rockstar or an astronaut.
I get that it’s extremely difficult, but if you believe in yourself, then why not pursue it? There are only two graduate schemes that I have found that are available, this being on Channel 4, and Shine TV. Of course I will apply for these, but it may mean taking a risk and doing something a bit less snazzy first, like being a runner.
I have no problem with this. Learn the trade, get experience, earn a bit of money. I have no problem where I work in production as long as there is always the opportunity to climb higher. That’s the key to motivation I think.
You always here the term DEAD END JOB. You may say I’m young and naive, but as long as there is always something to aim for above where I am, how can you end up in a dead end job?
Anyway, until next time where the real stuff happens.
