Not all graduation shows are created equal. The China International Design Museum on Xiangshan Campus of China Academy of Art Hangzhou makes

The layout at this year's Xiangshan campus is straightforward: exhibitions concentrate near the North and South gates. The North Gate covers Building 8, the School of Sculpture and Public Art, the School of Animation and Game, and the School of Film. Of those, Animation and Film are probably the most immediately accessible for general visitors.

The South Gate side splits between the EDNA Joint Institue, the School of Crafts, and the China International Design Museum (CIDM), where all the photos here were taken. The first two schools lean toward spatial and interaction design; the CIDM is a different world entirely: film, sculpture, ceramics, and a scattering of architecture.

You walk in and almost immediately encounter the installation in the third photo. The lighting is dim and deliberate, pulling you inward. The work reconstructs a study from another era: dense collages of old photographs and manuscripts covering the walls, a round table buried under documents and objects as if someone just stepped away from unfinished work. A book hangs suspended mid-flip above it all, freezing time. On the wall nearby are Swiss reprint posters for Time in the Sun and ¡Que viva México!, both from the 1940s.

The first two photos show a collection of archival objects gathered around a film projector: programs and publications including a four-act play Fangcao Tianya (芳草天涯), Selected Works of Gorky: Mother, Essays on Film, Under the Eaves of Shanghai, and issues of Art Monthly.

The whole first floor orbits a central inquiry into the history of montage as a visual language and what it means to challenge inherited ideas about cinema, tracing how sensory experience in art connects to something deeper about human intelligence and instinct.
