Graphical Craft As Extensions of Thought, Not Authors of it.
Throughout history, every era has faced the same question: does the tool define the artist?
Michelangelo did not invent marble, nor did he merely carve it. He made choices—about form, proportion, and expression—that the stone itself could not dictate. The work we admire is the product of his decisions, not of the physical labor or the chisel alone.
Rembrandt did not depend on the brush to decide where shadow should fall. The brush was an instrument for his thinking, a conduit for his perception. The genius lies in the judgment, the intentionality, and the responsibility for the effect of each stroke.
Yet Van Gogh’s bold impasto or Warhol’s mechanical silkscreens are not legitimized by the hand alone — they are legitimized by decisions and intentionality. Effort is a byproduct; thought is the core.
Just as artists of every era expanded their toolsets without losing their essence, designers today expand theirs — not to escape labor, but to extend thinking.
The lesson is clear: history proves it. The hand does not make the artist. The mind does.

I began to adapt my design practice into a more - illustration with design one. It's been fun to finally feel freer in the elements I share online, as being a research based designer - gave a sense of restriction and stress. Also beginning to put my process together in the form of shorts, which has also been very fun, still greatly learning about what works and what doesn't, but im hoping they will evolve and feel more fluid. I would really appreciate a follow on TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@kerryanncleaver And Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/kerryanncleaver/ This current collection of works has been in the works for a few years. On my procreate I enjoy to draw and doodle, things often get left there without a home. Going back to some of my favourites I thought it might be nice to create fun compositions which I could use on my videos or else where online as digital stickers, or perhaps real ones. It's lovely to see my raven, beefly and frog be at home within a final project, and will look to expand.
There is a video exploring the creation of these stickers here - https://www.tiktok.com/@kerryanncleaver/video/7603396658755439894 I feel refreshed to think that im back at the beginning of a process of change and rejuvenated to share my work online, being a creative is mentally exhausting, but retaining the time to create is both a blessing and curse. The mending of 'work' and 'hobby' blend together, having to remind yourself you create not only to find profit, but also as wellbeing. Thank you for giving me the space to share, and I hope you enjoy what I will be putting here. Again, please follow my socials, it will really help!!
