Blog #3: Activism and Protest
Happy New Year fellow bloggers!!
And here we are, entering the new year, and week 7 of this semester!! I must admit, I am ridiculously happy to be in the second half of this semester, as I only have one more semester before graduating!!
And now to move into the new topic of this week – the effects of digital communities regarding activism and protest.
It is fitting for me to post this link, as it is a prezi presentation. This one suggests that digital citizenship is a way of describing the appropriate or intended use of technology; it controls distribution of online material posted to an online network, website or blog (Salleh, 2014).

As our world becomes more digitally involved, it is natural for the activists of the world to also evolve into the digital technologies available at this day and age. Two of this platforms are the Greenpeace activists, and also the website called Change.org. These organisations, among other, make use of platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and blogs to assist them in spreading their important messages and also to raise the funds needed for their campaigns.
Digital activism has begun transforming political protest in the past couple of decades. Smartphones and the internet have changed the way political events, protests and movements are organised, helping to mobilise thousands of new supporters to a diverse range of causes (Karatzogianni, 2016). With this sort of activity becoming more of an everyday occurrence, the new forms of digital activism are now emerging. These types of activity seem to bypass the existing world of politics, social movements and campaigning. Instead, they tend to take advantage of new technologies to provide a different way of organising society and the economy.

days begin to blur all together
Welp.
Spring break is over. Back to school tomorrow. On the plus side, only like 6/7 weeks to go. On the downside, I don't want to attend one of them. Womp womp. Insanity is going well for the past week. May have over extended my hip flexor but I'll make it! Watched Biggest Loser finale tonight and was very happy with the winner! Grams followed by saying she isn't baking anymore and told my grandpa to enjoy the cake he has in there & eat it slow. I hope she's serious. I hate living with a baker grandma. The temptations!
