Grammar check is over here keeping me from accidentally revealing that I'm Jewish in my fanfiction

Apparently, "tell over" as in "to tell over the story of" is a Jewish English construction (according to google, which I consulted after grammar check gave me a blue squiggly line - the first result is a dictionary for the Jewish English lexicon)

And to think that earlier today I was thinking about how I nearly exclusively write in "Standard American English" (whatever that is), and barely write in Jewish American English, even though I almost always speak it. It seems I was quite wrong

i have a question.

so we write essays and writing forms for competitions and some of us put them out in ai grammar checkers or similar outlets for grammar checking, right?

most of the writing competitions these days have ai plagiarism detectors to check whether ai has written the work for the participants (us) or not.

so my question is: after we write the essays, after we put it through ai for checking, after we submit the essays, the ai plagiarism detector catches on the fact that ai is involved in our submitted work - because we fed ai our work for checking. so are we going to be immediately disqualified?

Just found out about beta-reading and im honestly interested in being one if anyone needs help with editing their texts (this is actually the job im seeking after i graduate)

so if you need grammar checks, checks for sentence variations, word choices, and just overall any help with story arcs and building the setting, im open to help out

(would just ask for a little patience since im in college and a part time worker most days)

The difference between

You’re and

Your

You’re an idiot.

“You’re”, meaning “you are”, is grammatically correct here. Think of the apostrophe as a mini A. You’re = you ^re.

Your an idiot.

“Your” is not grammatically correct here, unless you are talking about someone owning an idiot. (Which is still wrong because the AN wouldn’t be there.)

Anyone knows of an AI free grammar checker? I want to double check my fanfics, I feel bad asking my friends to beta read for me all the time especially when I give myself deadlines and they don’t have time to go the fic.

I keep looking for something but they all use AI. Like that can’t all use Ai, right?! Like 2005 word wasn’t using ai right?

The struggle of writing characters that use a normal word for a nickname is that grammar check will keep insisting you're using it wrong. Currently, I have eleven squiggly blue lines in a doc because Google wants me to append a "the" to the front of a character's nickname.

Grammar Checkers Without AI

The other day I've found this post about non-AI grammar checkers and now I'm painstakingly feed some of my fics there. Not all of them, just the freshest and current WIPs.

The post itself is new, but I want to add some corrections: LanguageTool, Quilli Bot now have AI. ProWritingAid uses genAI for certain features.

Instead, I want to add to the list Virtual Writing Tutor. I haven't found anything about using gen AI on their website. So it seems safe enough.
