Gran Fenwick and Neon Bloom presents: Armour Hill

After spending some time listening to the music of Dan Hick, (who has won Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at Peterborough’s New Music Awards), “Armour Hill” started to get under Ian Strung's skin. The Gran Fenwick mastermind imagined this 6/8 retro ballad about Peterborough’s local lookout point (and make out point) being delivered with a lot more gusto and with Jen Simpson of Neon Bloom on backing vocals.
Armed with handwritten chords from Dan, Ian set about recording the song as a heavy ballad with burbling drum machines and an atmospheric synth “meadow” in the bridge. Ian then asked Jen Simpson to improvise some backing vocals, which put the song over the top. Juno-winner Rob Sanzo mixed the track, and it was mastered by Lacquer Channel’s legendary Noah Mintz.
