Oranjezicht Market in Granger Bay is a traditional farmers market with a twist. It is the kind of place where some people go just to pick up their fresh organic produce and others go to hang out, eat and have a good time. There is something cool about it… It has a rustic feel… from the straw floor to the vegetable displays; this place feels earthy, natural, honest… It manages to be both homely and relaxed but with an upbeat vibe. The market is appealing and the crowd it draws is there for a reason… it really is something very special.
The produce we saw is alluring… the bright coloured vegetable displays are eye catching and presented like works of art. The home made cakes, pastries, jams, oils, dried fruits, ice creams, cheeses and milks are made with love and care. The vendors are passionate and proud of their produce. The food tent serves a wide variety of freshly made and cooked to order foods. There are breakfast items, paella style dishes, vegan pasta dishes, sandwiches, teas, coffees… you name it. The foods on offer were healthy… a honest reflection of the organic, natural and traditional but yet modern farmers market that Oranjezicht is.
It is a market well worth visiting… People leave carrying boxes of fresh produce (which is very reasonably priced). It is somewhere families can enjoy time together. A place where friends can hang out. And a place where you can go just to do your weekly grocery shop.
Oranjezicht Market, we loved you and will be back.
Thank you for being you… traditional yet modern and filled with passion.
Much Love,
