Granulator
A granulator is a machine that mechanically processes bulk or wet raw materials into uniform granules or pellets through cutting, compression, extrusion, or spraying. It is widely used in industries such as feed, fertilizer, fuel, biomass, plastics, pharmaceuticals, and food, facilitating subsequent drying, tableting, packaging, or conveying.
Working Principle The core of a granulator is a high-speed rotating screw or die roller. The screw's compression and friction increase the temperature and pressure of the raw materials. As the material enters the annular die, it is forced into shape and cut by cutting tools to form pellets. In a wet granulator, the raw materials are first moistened with water or steam. The water is then rapidly evaporated under high temperature and high pressure, causing the water to expand and form porous, low-moisture granules.
Main Types Screw granulators: Suitable for powdered or granular raw materials, commonly used in feed and fertilizer production. Disc granulators: Utilize centrifugal force and gravity to cause fine particles to roll and bond on a disc surface. They are suitable for granulating chemical raw materials such as sulfur. Double-cone, fluidized bed, and other processes: Specialized processes for varying viscosity or particle size requirements.
Applications Feed pellets: Process raw materials such as grain and soybean meal into pellets that are easy to store and feed.
