Khare hesitated before knocking on the door. Insecta had returned to Gotham, her cruise ship casting an ominous look over the harbour. However, there was no sign of the woman on deck and Khare knew better than to barge inside without an invitation. Once, she'd been allowed safe passage by the swarm, back when Insecta was sick and unable to buy food herself. Spending her weekly day off roaming the city streets in search of grocery stores offering discounts on good, buying cheap tins of soup may have gone some way in gaining Insecta's approval and Khare felt that a wrong turn here might burn that good will to ashes.
Her hand hesitated, other hand holding onto a bag of groceries. She'd come all this way, surely there was no harm knocking at the very least? Insecta could have been sleeping but there was the possibility she might have been unwell again, maybe even injured due to some grand battle at sea. Khare wasn't sure therefore, steeling her nerves, knocked once, twice, three times and waited.
Then the door opened, revealing just the person she was looking for.
"Hey, Insecta. It's um... been a while, hasn't it? You look well, or at least I hope you've been well. Have you?" Khare stammered a little, shifting awkwardly on her feet. Oh boy, how could she word this? Khare had noticed her ship bobbing on the harbour waves on the way home from work after her shift ended, went home and cleaned herself up a little before buying a few cheap groceries with the tips she'd made. Enough to buy some beef chuck, tinned tomatoes, beef stock and a pack of pasta sheets. She was sure she remembered seeing salt and pepper in the kitchen when she visited, when she left the bag of soup along with a bottle of gatorade for Insecta to enjoy when she woke up from her nap...
"I know it's short notice but would you, um, mind if I stayed over for an hour or two? I picked up some stuff after work and would love to make some soup for you. Nice soup I mean, not that crappy tinned stuff."
The weather hadn't been that great lately, ranging between stifling hot or sudden, wet and cold. Today it was the latter and a bowl of Instant Pot Beef Pasta Soup might tempt even Insecta, being promised a bowl of hearty beef cubes, spices and pasta simmered in a rich, colourful broth in exchange for allowing her kitchen to be used.
