ok if a crochet chart started like this

what would one do? im new to charts as opposed to written patterns, and none of the guides ive found have anything that looks like this. i THINK its telling me to dc into every stitch (there are 5 altogether, and 5 stitches in the circle counting the slip stitch) but maybe its telling me to do 5 dc in one stitch? and then do a chain and 5 dc in the next stitch to make a sort of "corner"? this is intended to work up into a shawl with a flat side, not a circle if that helps
