So I just watched Untamed ep 36 and Y’ALL. I think I’d seen like 75% of that episode in gifs (because I’m so beyond spoiling myself...I’m like rolling in spoilers at this point...also I read the book so technically I can’t be spoiled...in theory.) BUT the gifs DID NOT PREPARE ME. Y’all. (And I can’t make gifs and I spent literal hours looking for some but struck out so y’all get stills.)
The moment where LWJ is drunk and tells WWX about his regrets about Nightless City. I was NOT PREPARED for the length of the pause before WWX speaks or the DEPTH OF EMOTION he goes through.
OMG please give Xiao Zhan all the fucking awards because he destroyed me with the way you could see him get choked up. And he had to take a moment to close his eyes and just...appreciate that at least one person in the entire world regretted what happened to him and wanted to be there for him. And acknowledged that he was right.
And not just anyone, but LAN WANGJI, Hanguang-Jun himself. Above reproach, lawful good, Doer of Good Lan Zhan basically admits Wei Wuxian, the Yiling Patriarch, who most people consider evil incarnate these days, was actually on the right side.
If there’s a moment when WWX becomes ride or die with him, a point of no return on his heart, I think that has to be it. (Obviously this version is a little different than the original in terms of WWX’s feelings and when they happen, but yeah. )
And don’t even get me started on the next part, where he tries to absolve LWJ of guilt for what happened to him, taking it all on himself (which he also does with Wen Ning and a few other times.) Anyway, it’s possible I’ve found my favorite ten seconds of this series. At least of the first 36 episodes, lol.
