❝ i think you appreciate death a little more than we do. for us, it's just a challenge, a problem to find the cure for. but for you, it's an absolution, and something that should be respected. it must be hard trying to let go of that. i don't think you should. ❞

— synopsis.
TEMPERANCE "TEMPEST" BREWER is a necromancer, a fact she figured out by accident. that accident was so dreadfully remarkable that it managed to grab the attention of LORD DEATH THEMSELF. they offer her a chance to study the world of forbidden corpse alchemy at THE COLLEGE OF UNDEAD ARTS, located in a what she can only assume is purgatory. overwhelmed and desperate to start sorting out who and what she is, she takes it.
HEMLOCK CATCHER, on the other hand, has always known what he is: a REAPER, one of death's disciples tasked with collecting the souls of the deceased. it's a fact that has been mercilessly drilled into him since he was born. and while THE HEREAFTER might be his home, since the disappearance of his eldest brother it's begun to feel more and more like limbo.
the term begins, and the two are forced into uneasy partnership, an unfortunate graduation requirement. hemlock can't bring himself to work with a necromancer; it goes against everything a reaper should stand for. tempest can't bring herself to work with such an insufferable prick. but with THE BLIGHT threatening to weaken the hereafter's defenses and HARVESTERS greedily awaiting the day when the boundaries fall, they'll have to get over themselves, and quick. it's literally a matter of life and death.
