May I pick your brain with a question 🌹

If the Headhunter program existed for the Spartan IIs, who do you think would get flagged for it?

Ooo, good question.

My first answer would be Linda-058. She's perfectly comfortable on her own, and I feel her skill set is made for the job.

Then, gut feeling, without much to back me up, I'd say Anton-044. He's a skilled scout, so I imagine he's good at sneaking around to get intel behind enemy lines. Maybe Li-008 as well, since he's the most comfortable in space and good with hand to hand combat, and I feel like behind enemy lines might involve space. (My favorite odd couple, and I am giving myself fanfic ideas. Oh dear.)

From Halo: Legends, I feel Cal-141 would have been a good choice.

Daisy-023 from Halo: Legends, too. Because she was able to escape from the Spartan II Program, and later was shown apparently being a lone operator, and utterly calm about this. (I specify the one from Halo: Legends, because the Daisy-023 from the Halo: Silent Storm novel seemed more like a hothead with a firm attachment to her fellow Spartans, which is my preferred way to write her in fanfic.)

James-005 for reasons, other than my undying love for him.

And Gray Team is kind of a proto-Headhunter unit.

not enough content for them. bring them back. are they safe, are they alright? need them in novels and comics pls & thank.

how's thorne handling being leader of majestic, and vice versa? have they been on the field in their new full line up yet, have they met naiya ray? what are gray team up to with their prowler? is melody still in contact with them? how are red team handling the knowledge of spartan-iiis? are the ferrets now hanging with them wondering why these spartan-iis are similar in age to them but also not? what's jun up to after the station exploded on him? has he reached out to rosenda at all? are gray team working with rojka under any circumstances? can we please get red team in a novel that's not just a small-ass cameo?

My Spartan thought of the day,

If, or rather, when because I'm hopeful, Gray team, Blue team, Red team, or Naomi ever reunite with each other, I like to think they'll share rooms together. Just as they did when they were children and right after augmentations.

And you would think they would be quiet and comfortable with the silence, but they're chatty as hell. Like Adriana keeps poking at John until he joins in, and it's all downhill from there.

Mike would be teasing Linda about her latest sniper feats and "how's losing her edge," while Kelly and Naomi are catching up on old missions in the corner of the room.

Spartan Saturday — Adriana-111

A member of Gray Team, Adriana-111 acts as both the team's muscle and their designated marksman. She notably served alongside her teammates Jai-006 and Michael-120 during the battles at the Rubble and Metisette in 2535.

She also served in Operation: SUNSPEAR, which had the team destroy the Sangheili world of Glyke. Following the Carrow Conflict in 2558, the team formed a strike force with the Swords of Sanghelios, now operating out of the prowler UNSC Perilous Contest.

Petty Officer Adriana-111 is a SPARTAN-II supersoldier and a member of the Gray Team.

Gray team were the misfits of the IIs, Jai and Adriana especially. I’ve always wondered how Gray Team and the other IIs got along? They seemed so insular in comparison.

I know Jai’s alive and well, did you two get along? How were relations as Squad leaders?

In all honesty: difficult.

Authority in the Spartan candidates worked like this:

I came out on top. I was stubborn, I wanted it, and a lot of the group thought I made sense. It became official, but we'd been working like that for a while before it did.

I had a couple people I trusted to delegate things to and could put in charge of smaller teams. Kurt. Fred. Jerome. Margaret. Not everyone, but some of them.

We used color names for teams. Mine was always Blue. We threw Red and Green around the most. More colors if we needed that many. Black, White, Gold, Silver, etc.

We tried things out. Figured out who worked well together. Who didn't. There were a couple teams you started to see hanging together consistently. Black Team got stable membership. Red Team was settled for a while until it wasn't. Kurt usually had Green and he had some people who preferred running with him. Blue had regulars. Mendez even started recognizing some of our groups and peeling them off for more specialized training, but even then we mostly kept things flexible.

Gray Team was always Gray Team. Jai, Adriana, Mike. Nobody else. They didn't get along with most of us. Proud of it, maybe. They didn't like orders, they didn't like me, and they all have damn hard heads.

Jai's the most stubborn of the three. They don't like calling him the leader, but he pulls the other two hard enough and they follow.

I made the mistake of trying to push Jai around when he argued with me, and I paid for it.

A lot.

Until I learned.

You want Gray Team to do something, you tell Jai the parameters for what you need done. You give him the space to figure out how to get it out of Gray Team. Don't undercut him, don't argue with them, don't complain about how they decide to get it done.

Otherwise, you're arguing with all three of them and not just Jai. And you won't win.
